Fought as an Amateur in California on the San Diego base team along side then Cedric Boswell and Lamon Brewster, I was real good and trained at little creek for a while, I won 5 Base smokers and was going to go pro, I trained at Bigg Morrison with Cedric, and the later Vernon Forrest AND found out I had a serious heart disease and was denied a license. But I went pro in something else and became a Pastoral Counselor and Christian Psychologist and work in private practice; I am a devoted fan and will never turn my back on boxing no matter how many BAD DECISIONS, MISMATCHES, OR LAME CHAMPIONS THERE ARE!!!
Boxed and trained for a year straight when i was in high school Monday thru Friday after school fought alot of amateur bout's sponsored by the gym then i met this fine ass Brazilian chick and my boxing interest quickly faded.
Been in the gym a few times and a couple of sparring sessions (for shits and giggles). My most notable memory was when I sparred a guy (who later fought in a few amateur tournaments), and he hit me with one mean uppercut to the mid section. I tried my hardest to show I wasn't bothered, but boy I was in serious pain lol. Credit to the other guy, he knew I was hurt and that I didn't belong anywhere near a ring, so he went easy on me for the remander of the round. Been in fair few street fights though...does that count?
Have about 15 amateur fights and havent fought since 07 but ill be back in November and im a bit older and mature I wanna make a serious run with this thing.
In the early to mid 70's I was the Ricardo Mayorga of the local amature club; smoked, drank, partied, et:yep I was never that skilled, just tough with good power and fast hands, used to beat the **** out of the top guys around my weight, and then go outside and have a smoke:hey I also wrestled and raced motorcycles, so boxing was never a full time-serious thing.
I think that disrespect also exposes people who are here for the wrong reasons. There are some members who claim to box but threaten to "ktfo" other members not realizing about the whole control element of boxing. The irony cracks me up everytime I read a hothead threatening people. Never boxed myseif. Karate's the closest I've come to a contact sport.
