Yep, definitely. A lot of the time it’s an appreciation of a fighter I’d overlooked or never really rated highly. Jung Koo Chang was a bit of a shock to me (people rating him so highly) but I just didn’t know that much about him and his career.

I don’t think I hold any opinion so dear that I’m not open to changing it. Better and more knowledgeable posters than me are always pointing things out that I either overlooked or just didn’t know. I like that.

Shame guys like @88Chris05 and roughdiamond don’t post here much or at all anymore, but newer posters like @Dynamicpuncher and @Greg Price99 have kept the quality high as well as some of the other aforementioned posters in this thread.

I wouldn't call SH89 picking Tyson over Holmes as odd as the fight is a real pick'em for me. You couldn't favour either more than 7-5 over the other no matter which way you swayed IMO. He pointed out the styles and in fact people Tyson was trained to defeat and also took no prisoners at to when Tyson was at his actual best. Holmes had by far the greater longevity but as he'd point out, Tyson for a couple of years was a helluva fighter.

    Hi Eddie.
Many, many thanks for your kind and much appreciated comments, sometimes I despair when posters vilify and denigrate others on the forum, I just wish and hope that one day they will realise this is just a medium for like minded fans to discuss, swop anecdotes, and educate their friends, yes friends, since I joined the site, I would like to think that people I don't know, nether will probably meet, have become friends of mine, I like reading about them, their background, how they become boxing fans, I have laughed, sometimes cried, all their stories are important, all their views should be respected, if we disagree with a certain opinion or stance, that's fine, we can exchange friendly dialogue in pursuit of understanding how and why they formed a view on such and such, this isn't, or shouldn't be a place to be rude, disrespectful, and arrogant towards others , thankfully the nice , respectful, and polite posters outweigh the opposite, as to the current spate between @Saintpat and @Richard M Murrieta , guys you are both good posters, have contributed lots of good posts, you can rise above this, please can you not be the bigger men, and reconcile your uncalled for hatred for each other, look into yourselves for a moment, you are both worth better.
    stay safe guys.

Absolutely yes ... there are many guys on this forum the know a sh-tload about the sport ... many have their own sweet spots or particular fighters or regions of the country ... I only come here to see what knowledgable guys have to say about topics ... I'd start reeling off names but there are too many ... at least a dozen or more ..

We already made up. @Richard M Murrieta says he’s OK with my old man jokes, but he still won’t tell me what his allowance was during the Great Depression.

Yes, I have learned how crazy good/ mad heart that joe Frazier was. He was a great heavyweight not just some contender, he wasn't just a belt holder he was a very talented brave warrior. I'm not just saying that. Some people call him the real life rocky!

Oh no, my friend, I didn't think SH89's picking of Mike over Larry was odd, I was just using your word:

And btw, I agree with you on so many of your points on this topic.

I think a big shoutout to @apollack is warranted here.

Adam’s incredible series of books and periodic contributions have surely increased (significantly) the knowledge of many already well informed members here - and likely altered a good number of opinions along the way also.

And one key factor to all of this is that Adam does not offer much of his own opinion if at all - rather, maintaining optimal objectivity, Adam mainly allows the generous sampling of primary sources to speak for themselves.

Any conclusions Adam draws are highly reasonable and strictly anchored in and faithful to the data collected without injection of any subjective slant.

Yes. I was once convicned that Duran would have a good chance at beating Hearns if they fought in 1980. Prior to that I thought Hearns would always have obliterated Duran.

I often see boxers mentioned that I've never heard of and have a "I need to check them out" moment, I also realize everyone has their favorite fighters and there should be/is some fun and ridiculousness involved in fantasy match ups and personal rankings

Oh sorry old mate. It is slightly different use of English i reckon. The "odd" the way i used it isn't meant to mean the point was odd, hmmmmmmmm it's hard to explain. Let me try a few sentences to try and show you -

How did you go out surfing this morning - oh not too bad, there was the odd good wave.

How many red cars did you see on your drive - i saw the odd one but not that many.

How many close decisions did Larry Holmes have during his reign - he had the odd close decision but not that many.

Actually i just found my meaning in the dic -

    3.
happening or occurring infrequently and irregularly; occasional.
"we have the odd drink together"

Wish i looked it up first hahaha

    Do you follow now?
