Have you ever realised you have horrific gaps/errors in your knowledge of boxing???

I lost a little interest in boxing for a few years around 1990 so my knowledge isn't the best of that era. You can look back through fights on DVD but it doesn't compare from taking an active interest at the time IMHO.

 

You weren't wrong about that. Ray used the pseudonym "Robinson" during the 40s and 50s in tribute to his contemporary, the pan-athletic Jackie Robinson who broke color barriers.

After a few decades he tired of this and wanted full credit for all he'd accomplished (he did after all go 209-22-7 in a fifty-seven year career with all said and done) so he reverted to his birth surname of Leonard.

I think I got the right sense of it, 'Ray' changed his surname back to Leonard, very good IB :yep, that'll have them heading to wikipedia

 

Spot on. I had the same thing in the early 2000's when I had no access to sky.

Agree with Achilles though some of the errors on this thread are pretty unforgivable! Hopkins v Toney? If only!

i still dont understand how someone who is right handed can have a better left hook than straight right say someone like hatton makes no sense to me

 

Im brutal for forgetting things myself but some of the ones on here are really bad. fair play to the lads for admitting them

 

To this day I still believe that Boxrec, Wikipedia, BritishBoxing and every poster on this forum is wrong and that Cleverley hasn't fought let alone beaten Quigley

 

I have a lot of memory failure on most of the heavyweight action since Lewis retired. For the most part, I just didn't pay much attention to the division and lost a lot of interest. I could name the champions, just forgotten about most of the fights and match-ups from around 2004 on. Think it's a largely forgettable era anyway.

 

I didn't realise until fairly recently that Sonny Liston went on a really good run post Ali II until the brutal KO loss (I just looked it up - it was to Leotis Martin)

That's the worst one that springs to mind. I think I know pretty much everything else
