I think he just took a bomb and realised how outclassed he was.
Thats different than going into the round with a pre meditated intention of losing.

This kind of thread can't come up without emmanuel pacquiao's fight with The Great Ghana Joshua "Stand There" Clottey being mentioned. Those few punches that he did land had moar of an effect than all of emmanuel's blows landed on him. Had emmanuel manage to rock him or even knock him down, he simply could have just gone back into his shell for the rest of the night to avoid a KO. It's not like a 5 ft 6 guy can become Thomas Hearns. Bob Arum simply couldn't let his cash cow, the 2nd biggest star in boxing, be dethroned by a fighter with virtually no fanbase.

Thanks a lot for cherry picking and hurting the sport of boxing by exposing people to the shittiest fight of the decade.

Lennox - Tyson, I believe in the 3rd or 4th there was a moment when I saw Tyson about to land on Lennox's chin, but then he stopped and pulled the punch.

    Straight up.

If that fight was "real" we will know when Pac faces Mayweather. I swear he better wobble or put him down. If not? I know for a fact that Pac/Clottey was a fixed fight.

Oh and Pac BETTER not gas!

well im not gonna argue with you and say you are wrong because neither one of knew what happened behind closed doors. But a promotor is going to do all he can to save or resurrect their cash cow. As good as that lick was, and as happy as i was, I still asked myself, "If he got knocked the **** out, how is he able to casually remove his mouthpiece like that. It is what it is...

Moar likely to happen to emmanuel due to his recklessness and awkward balance.

When is the last time ANY African made a dent on the PPV scene? Clottey had a belt and couldn't buy a fight.

"...whatever reason..." is that Arum would have buried him and killed his already on life support career if he slaughtered his cash cow.

The next reason is when you get a purse doubling bonus for literally your worst performance in the most important fight of your career. :huh

Notice, Clottey pulled the same BS against Arum's other up and coming cash cow Margarito. He was kicking his can too!

Anyone noticing a pattern here? :think

to those of you saying Clottey through the Pac fight to "make money" are you ******ed?

If he beats Pac he is a worldwide star, probably has a rematch with Pac or other mega fights where he would get big money.

Yeah, but he threw it, for what? $2m?

Samuel Peter and Kevin Johnson's perfomances against Vitali were complete non-efforts; they just looked satisfied enough with getting paid.

At the end of the first round of the Hatton-Pacquiao fight I couldn't believe how poor Ricky's gameplan was: charging in with low hands, no jab and no head movement? Not a "dive" as such but still a textbook example of blowing it.

Not really. Clottey just has a hard style to beat. Just like Winky. Sucks to fight him.

He fine eating punches on his gloves all night staying too close to ignore, but too defended to hurt. He is "fast enough" to pop you if you don't let your hands go. He has decent enough footwork to stay close and in front of all but the most skilled fighters. You are sitting there punching, punching, and punching... knowing damned well that you aren't landing, just keeping him shelled up... Waiting. :bbb

Honestly if Clottey came in wearing "African Warrior" garb saying how he was going to kick everyone's butt? He would be making tons of cash right now. Arum doesn't and never has believed in him so has invested NOTHING in the man.

oh please i bet even you pick pac to beat clottey. When this fight was made pac haters were all over this site saying this is a joke. Since clottey loss to cotto and pac dominated cotto.

The fact is pac is the superior fighter between the two and he showed it on fight night. It wasn't his fault clottey didn't want to get KTFO like hatton and cotto did.
