I read several books on boxing by unknown "specialists", after that I had impression that boxing books sucks until...I read jack's book. It is a very condensed manual with many deep and what is most important proven concepts and ideas. It is a bit outdated in terms of stance and movements, but has a solid material on developing ko punches. Do not try to read it through fast, it requires meditation on the content, because, like I said, it is very condensed.

It's outdated - it's well put together and organised and has all the topics you should consider - but the advice is not optimal in terms of stance and shot execution.

Footwook is fine, it is just too basic. No cutting ring stuff, movements like Ali or SSR and so obviously because of time period.

It shows on some page examples of several stances, maybe it is just me, but I never saw people using them recently. Generally, fighters keep their hands higher, use classical orthodox stance with half body turn or Philly shell nowadays.

How is it outdated on stances? The stance he recommends fighters to use is the same stance Tunney used and the stance that Marquez uses today.

Marquez probably does have the best all around stance in boxing.

If anything, fighters, especially heavyweight fighters should use Dempsey's bobbing and weaving stance, and perhaps they would have a chance to beat guys like Wlad and Vitali.

The only guy I've seen utilize a stance similiar to Dempsey was Chisora, and he's had the best success against Vitali in damn near a decade.

I'm not sure why anybody disagrees with the shot execution unless they are arguing about how his hand is positioned when he throws the straight shots, but in so far as the footwork involved, I completely disagree.

Some of the best fighters in boxing today throw shots from the outside using Dempsey's footwork.

In so far as throwing shots with your hands veriticle, I haven't really tested it. I don't know how effective it is.

Absolutely not the stance used by Marquez - tell me what the similarities are! ;-)

The book suggests being front foot heavy is good and bending at the waist is also good.

There are three stances that he mentions. The first one is straight up and down, like so many fighters do today, like Mike Jones who sucks.

The second is a semi-crouch. Marquez does fight out of a semi-crouch. I'm not so sure about Dempsey's thoughts on weight distribution, especially regarding the third stance, but I believe in the second stance, he recommends a balanced approach where the weight is more or less evenly distributed.

Marquez fights out of a balanced, semi-crouched stance, and while he's a great counterpuncher, he's an offensive fighter.

From what I could tell, that's the style that Dempsey was recommending as being the most effective. It's a style that most average athletes could utilize.

Maybe, my interpretation is off, but I try to look at it from a film perspective. And if you watch Dempsey on film, and don't pay attention to the rudimentary drawings, you can see that the style he recommends looks like it came from Gene Tunney who probably has the best all around stance in boxing.

    Similiar to Marquez today.

And while Mike Jones may use a lean back, 'philly shell,' style of defense, he's still a straight up and down fighter that relies mostly on his footwork to get away from his opponents.

The full crouch, bobbing and weaving style is a lost art. I wish more guys would use that style today. Very few guys do.

I suppose Tim Bradley does to an extent, but he hasn't figured out how to punch for some reason.

Honestly, Chisora, who isn't a very good athlete himself, would probably have the best success against Wladimir, specifically because he does utilize that bobbing and weaving style.

I am not here to argue heavily, maybe the pictures were not the best and I did not get the explanation right, it is just my opinion

I could be misinterpreting things, and I do agree that some of the things he said about weight distribution is either contradictory or a misinterpretation on his part, because you can tell on film that Dempsey often had his weight distribution on his rear foot, especially when he shot those lead rights.
