Sadly, anything he does from this point forward isn't going to impress me unless it's in an Octagon. Still much love, CC.
He's fought good competition as well, but seriously, whats the over under on masked mexican wrestlers he will face in k1?
I just think CC doesn't like the cage and feels more comfortable in a ring. Just as I think Fedor is thats my theory on why we haven't seen him fight in the UFC.
Just shows that he isn't "shot" like people try to say. I have been saying that he wasn't shot since day one... he just isn't as good as people thought he was. Pride wasn't dominant like people thought it was.
Are you serious Widdow? He beat hte **** out of Nog before getting caught. Destroyed Herring. Destoryed Alex, Igor and Wand with brutal head kicks. Beat up Barnett 3 times. Went the distance with Fedor. The guy he just fought was a joke. I believe Cro Cop is not only shot, but really doe'snt want to fight anymore and has lost any hunger he had..
A fighter doesn't go from being at his very best (Cro-Cop OWGP), to be shot in his next couple fights. People were claiming that Cro-Cop would beat Fedor if they fought again, after Cro-Cop tore through the OWGP. The man did not become shot all of the sudden. That is just an excuse to give him a pass for getting destroyed in the UFC. His losses in the UFC have nothing to do with being shot. They had to do with him fighting against two guys who had the ability to take the fight to Mirko. Keep Mirko on his back foot and he is an average fighter. Let Mirko stalk you around the ring, and he is going to take your head off. Simple as that. Not every fighter has the right sort of style, or ability to do that to Mirko though... however obviously Gonzaga and Kongo did.
WiddoW_MaKeR , Crocop had several stages in his career... During his K1 era....He was an awesome kickboxer...(and nothing more).. Druing the 2001 - 2003 era...He was (still) an awesome kickboxer with one of the best sprawl in mma...(but he was very vulnerable on the ground)... By the end of 2003...Crocop gets his first reality check , and gets subbed by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira... Crocop tries to re-invent himself , learns more and more about wrestling and ground defense...(but is still vulnerable when taken on the ground)...Watch Crocop vs Waterman , and compare that to crocop vs Barnett....day and night. (Even though he still ended up winning the fight against waterman). 2004 One of the biggest upset of his entire career...The guy gets koed by Randleman. (then same thing happened against Gonzaga only via highkick)...two huge and very ironic losses. (a kickboxer getting koed by a wrestler and a bjj artist). 2004 again...right after his loss against Randleman , he's scheduled to fight Kanehara...(won a decision , even though he was supposed to annihilate that guy in the 1rst...but he didn't and he looked like utter ****...and not motivated at all...pretty much like he did in the UFC)... August 2004...Beats Alexander Emelianenko...right after that victory , crocop gave a speech about his past defeats and problems , then told his fans that he was finally "back"... Then (if we're starting to count after his randleman loss..) he went on to add a 7 winning streak (beating barnett and also winning his rematch against randleman)... Before meeting Fedor Emelianenko. Before his fight against Fedor , Crocop was concentrated and even obsessed on the "ground work"....so much so , that he went on to hire Werdum as his personal bjj coach and sparring partner...(he also took lessons from judo and wrestling pros)... AND THE RESULT ?.... A superb solid ground defense (but which ended up being useless since fedor had an insane workrate and kept attacking for the duration of the entire ****ing fight)....Ironically , Fedor was even starting to dominate the stand up action...(though crocop landed all the best shots in the first round , but he couldn't keep up with fedor's pace in the 2nd and 3rd). Then a huge surprise to many of us...(mma conaiseurs)...oct 2005 (right after his loss against fedor) He was dominating Barnett on the ground... Dec 2005....Crocop lost his rematch against Hunt..(already defeated him under K1 rules but couldn't under mma rules)...Lost a split decision , not the end of the world....but he was obviously already showing some signs in his fighting style...signs which indicated that he no longer was "the" kickboxer with a good sprawl but more of a legit mma fighter with top notch kicking abilities....but he paid for it...His pride made him lost a fight under mma rules because he was trying to beat Hunt (who was still more of a kickboxer than mma artist) at his own game.. Crocop WAS DIFFERENT... Then like we all know , he won the grand prix by beating Minowa , Yoshida , Wanderlei & Barnett. Some would argue that Minowa was more of a gift than a legit win..Ok , but it's all relative when you think about it. (afterall , Minowa defeated Gilbert Yvel...and Gilbert Yvel defeated Kongo) He did a perfect job against wanderlei (which was a rematch) , and unlike his first fight...he wasn't scared of the ground anymore...and proceeded to demolish wandy. Then finally , defeated a guy he already defeated in the past (barnett)... And that was the last time crocop was at the top of his game... He then went to the ufc...fought against Sanchez...looked rather average (but still won)...but was looking kinda like he used to right after his loss against randleman...(against Kanehara)...not motivated (even though he said so).... Then , the unthinkable happened.. Gonzaga Randlemaned' him again. Then he also looked like **** against Kongo... (remember , Kongo lost against Yvel who got beat by Minowa...and Kongo even recently lost against Herring)... From 2001 to 2007...the changes didn't happened in one night. But the guy IS different and past his prime now... The same goes with many fighters...it's an accumulation of things and one day , it seems to come out of nowhere...(it happened to tyson too) it happened to Roy Jones...
Anyone can go through someone's career history, and pretend like they were at their best for their wins, and find excuses for their downfalls. In reality, Cro-Cop was an ever evolving fighter who was at his very best during the OWGP. He wasn't past it, and EVERYONE was in agreement that he was on FIRE. He looked fine against Sanchez. Sanchez was running from him and Crop took his time, walked him down and took him out. Gonzaga just beat the pride out of him. Gonzaga took him down off a body kick attempt, pounded the **** out of him on the ground. And when they got back up he took it to him with a high kick to the head. I don't ever see Cro-Cop beating Gonzaga. Gabriel is just built to beat Cro-Cop. Great chin, very good power in his punches and kicks.... and great on the ground. He just manhandled Cro-Cop, and Mirko was at his best, whether people like to believe it or not. I can understand that Mirko may not have been as comfortable fighting in the Cage, but that is nothing more than an excuse because.... 1. The cage never played a big part in the fight. 2. A true pro should be able to fight in a cage or a ring. Not being as comfortable isn't an excuse for getting completely owned. As far as Kongo goes... he just took it to Mirko. Mirko is a front runner, and a bully. If you let him walk you down, you are done. However, if you push him around, and have him moving backwards, he folds. I also disagree about it happening like that to Tyson and Jones. It is real simple... fighters who you are used to seeing dominate their opposition are NOT going to look like the same, or as good when someone is kicking their ass. That doesn't mean that they aren't the same fighter, or that they are "past it", "washed up", or "shot". It means that the other guy beat them, and forced them to look like they weren't as good. Had Gonzago or Kongo allowed Mirko to stalk them around the ring and pick his openings at will, they would have fallen just like everyone else who did it. Gonzaga just took the fight to him and dominated him. Kongo simply pushed him back and broke his will.
I think Cro Cops takedown is so ****ing overatted and has NEVER impressed me Wanderlei took him down like what 4 times ? Wanderlei is a smaller man and not known for his takedowns and Cro Cop couldnt stop them and e couldnt stop the 30 pound smaller Sakurabas takedowns very well either. Home boy was actually being outwrestled by Cheick Kongo. I guess it all came from that fight with a injured Mark Coleman who I couldve sprawld on that night all Coleman did was try to shoot on Cro Cops lower legs from about a mile away cause Cro Cop was tooling him in the standup if that where a Randy Couture type guy who can actually close the distance Cro Cop would be mauled Cage or no Cage.
People are just looking at Gonazagas recent fights and thinking o Cro Cop had to be taking him lightly or be shot :-( Gonzaga is being very underatted now sure he lost to Wedrum is a competitve fight he lost before to Wedrum the guy just has his number and the fight with Randy was dam close until he got cut open and it just went down hill from there lots of great fighters have lost to Randy or Wedrum does that make them shot to in Boxingcars case they probablly where as everyone is shot especially if they came from Pride. Gab Gonzaga is a fine fighter and will be back near the top soon hes got a nice beard, heavy hands not great technique with the hands but heavy, solid leg kicks and a head kick that nearly killed Cro Cop plus hes showed good ground and pound skills and beautiful BJJ. Everyone calling him a overatted hype job just shows ignorance to MMA just like those who gave Randy no chance in the mythetical Couture-Cro Cop fight when Randys made to kill Cop.
This is nothing more then a documented excuse book. If Rampage would have came over and lost to chuck he would have been Shot as well or past his prime, but since he won it's OK. fighters have up's and downs and because they don't dominate everyone doesn't mean they are shot. CC is a great fighter but he is very 1 dimensional it's amazing he has had the success he has had.
To be honest , i thought Rampage was shot...or maybe Liddell is just a perfect match up for him. (afterall , the rampage who got beat up by wandy also owned liddell in 2003)... How can you say that crocop is one dimensional after defeating a guy like Barnett ?... and dominating him on the ground too...Would the 2001 version of that guy been as dominant against barnett too ?....Look what happened in crocop's first fight against wandy...and look at the rematch (in 2006)...there was obviously a huge difference... of course crocop changed....big time. He was so insecure about his kickboxing (prior to his fight against kongo) that he was sparring vs Bonjasky and Yvel...
