I've just finished reading the full top 100 fighters by the ring.

One thing that bugs me is that (not suprisingly) Floyd Mayweather is ranked 2nd.

Reading through the fighters previous alot in the top 20 fought between 3 and 5 times last year.

Ranking someone 2nd despite fighting only twice in over 3 years in boxing and has nothing lined up sends out the wrong message to the boxing world.

The boxers that shoud be rewarded are the ones that remain active and continue to entertain.

The floyd mayweather affect has kncked on to people like Williams and Berto who shoud be fighting at east 4 times a year.

P.s this is not a hate mayweather thread/ I actually love mayweathers skills. But the message should be, if your not fighting, then step aside and let the up and comers take the spotlight.

    Thoughts?

I think all guys in boxing should fight atleast 3 times per year. perfect example are the klitschko´s and adamek all very active fighters.
Floyd is ranked 2 because of his skills not what he has done lately.
I Give him til may if he has nothing lined up he will go and number 3 moves up a place.

I got no problem with Floyd at number 2.
He deserves that recognition, skill-wise that is, and he still fights anyway.

Now if he stops fighting on 2011, or announces once and for all that he's finally hanging his gloves for good, then by all means remove him from the list.

    Agreed.

I dont care how bad a person is, if Osama Bin Laden is the 2nd best boxer in the world then he is. Truth aint always good.

It isn't about whether he is a good or bad fighter (or person). This is about if he is active enough. 2 fights in 3 years is not enough to rank a fighter.

Dont worry come May 1st, Mayweather will be off the list due to inactivity and I just cant see him having a fight lined up by then.

i agree with all this. And skills wise, he's number 1.

I just think 2 in 3 years, (against not the greatest of comp, but lets notgo there) is a bit poor.

Tim Bradley for example is facing his 3rd undefeated fighter in a row, some fighters have remained undefeated in 10 fights in the same span and are ranked below lil floyd.

In my mind if someone is fighting once a year or less, they shouldn't crack the top 10.

I think Floyd is #1. He's never dropped out of the top 10 Ring Mag P4P by years' end since 1998 and was #2 in 1999. All he has done since then is reign as #1 for three years. And the years he wasn't #1, he was #2 something like 4 times. If you trace the lineage despite his "retirement", he is the legit 147 pound champ, and proves so and then some when he annihilated the then 3rd best fighters P4Pers in the sport. It's all opinion, but to say it is absurd to rate Floyd #1 is... absurd.

The way he fights and how he dominates. And of course skill-wise, Would be more than enough to rank him high.

i never said its absurd. I mean in my opinion someone as inactive as floyd shouldn't be ranked as high as he is. WHen we have figters dominating their weight classes. fighters fighting much tougher opposition are lower ranked.

I am more than impressed with floyds record. However its been 3 years now and he's only fought twice. And regardless of where they were ranked pound for pound, they were huge mis matches from the start. (and don't reply with the argument, that's not floyds fault - their were plenty of fights available that would have been more evenly matched)

And he has his undefeated resume to back this up. Fact. :good

Ali has losses, Ray Robinson, and Duran all have. Even Pacquaio. Fact. :good

    What is "active enough", exactly?

He has last fought within the past year (within the last seven months, actually). That should be all that matters.

Ranking him below number 1 or 2 would be disingenuous.

Having mayweather out of the boxing ring is bad.

Seeing as how most people at the top only fight once or twice a year i don't see the point of this thread or the big deal.

Pound for Pound Best not Active for Active Most

And even if he is removed from "the list". Boo ****in' hoo... That means about as much as Pacquiao's 8th title lol. Unranked or not, we know he's not retired, and he is still THE BEST BOXER today.

I think a majority of Floyd haters are bitter Floyd fans that are mad he doesn't fight when, who, and how they want him to. People seem to forget celebrities and athletes are people too. THEY DON'T OWE US ****!
