well in an idea world 4 times a year would be ideal.

But i may as well be realistic to the modern day game. 4 months to promote a fight and all. lets say a minimum of 2 is "active enough" in my mind.

and also, yes he has fough nd it was a very good win. but my point is that i'd like to see the more active guys out there and the ones fighting the tougher fights getting recognition.

floyd can fight as often or little as he wants. he don't owe us anything.
the point is 2 fights in 3 years in fights he was supposed to win, does not warrant number 2. in my mind.

To be fair, Mayweather’s inactivity has only kicked in recently. Prior to that, he was ‘officially’ retired. And upon his return, he did have 2 fights in the space of 12 months. His idleness since then can be attributed to his out-of-ring problems.

But with that said, he’s not helped his cause one bit. Saying he has no ‘urge’ to fight and that he’s taking another ‘vacation’, really does strip him of the right to claim he’s the best fighter in the world. In addition to this, he and his fans have no right to complain about who Pacquiao fights, because Pacquiao is at least remaining active and giving us fights. You can’t sit there and criticise other fighters for what they do or don’t do, whilst you yourself are sitting on your ass with no intention of getting in the ring.

There's no reason why a fit healthy boxer shouldn't fight more than once a year. To be p4p ranked they should fight at least once over a years period, if not give them the boot. Mayweathers year approaches, let's see if those bias gutless ****s at ring have the guts.

it seems pretty split on opinion looking at this.

some people wanting more activity, and others happy to base it on skills.

The simple fact that he can take long periods of activity and still stay at the top or close to the top for over a decade speaks to how good the guy is(was) because everyone else who has long layoffs are given the rust factor excuse to get a tune up in, but if pbf guy fights a tuneup in 11 then a big fight the hate would reach epic levels

...but ranking a fighter should be based on skills, the excitement that he gives to his fans, and how many times he fights. based on this ranking, I may give floyd rank 3-5, not 1 or 2 just based on his skill and his 0-loss only.

I havent been on a boxing forum in months but this guy is still the talk of it WHY? most will only talk about the great bhop fight a couple of days than thats it or the tim bradley fight, i want to know who Pirog is fighting next personally but come back and bam 8 more **** on floyd threds 5 more articles dude is offically a TMZ CELEB thats the life he wanted more than boxing. boxing was his avenue to get what he wanted and he now has everything that goes with that life and being a arsehole

    My view is this:

    Skills-wise, Mayweather isn't number 2, he's number 1.

However, he shows no desire to be in the sport anymore, he's like an annual attraction, and his inactivity has to be taken into account.

Sergio Martinez spent the last year whipping the best the Middleweight division had to offer, and he was a relatively small light middleweight! Thus, Martinez for me has moved to 2.

I believe a lot of the reluctance to remove Mayweather from the top 2 is this dream that he and Pacquiao will fight, at their peak, as pound for pound number 1 and 2, in a blockbuster smashing superfight. The pound for pound number 1 against the number 3 doesnt have quite the same ring to it.

That ship has passed though, and its time to move with the punches and rank fighters based on their performances.

The fact that he is so inactive and has had long periods of inactitvity thru out his career but still is at the top of the list is amazing look at the 2001 list and look now and how many fighters are still on that list from then

Floyd is, in my opinion, the best boxer on the planet. He's fought within the past year. Having him below second place on a list just makes the list lose credibility. Pound for pound rankings are based on how good a fighter is. People don't drop spots for not being so active. It is about how good they are.

tthese two are not part of the criteria
it should be skills and comp because the most exciting fighters are rarely skilled thats why their fights are more exciting FROCH Beat kessler in a fight of the year type fight and people loved him, he boxed the **** out of AA and people was saying they hated it and it was boring discounting the fact that he had back to back win over above average comp

There is no point in time where activity was ever in the equation, vitali took 5 years of for his injury but was still the best or second best heavy weight the moment he got in the ring

If he doesn't fight until the 1st half of the year then I think they should drop him some spots. I think in that case, it would somehow motivate him to get back in the ring and (maybe) grant us what we have been wishing all these years.
