I am watching Canelo vs. Kirkland 24/7 and Canelo talks about how much he enjoys having a gym in his house because hes 100% comfortable there.

Is that a good idea? Even if say I was training in my basement or garage and I had a boxing coach come help me out.

I could see how the discomfort of going out to a gym where other people/strangers train would be beneficial to you. You would notice your mistakes more and you have to keep yourself at your best because others are watching.

yea i agree i go to alot of gyms up and down the country to get sparring in and i feel it does you good when your in a unfamiliar atmosphere it kind of gets to used to what it could be like fight night, you dont wanna be to confortable training at the same place everytime but then again at the level them guys are at, it probably doesnt matter so much

It works for them because they have the resources, coaches, sparring partners, professional therapists, ample space and a variety of equipment.

You have a cramped garage, neighbours that will complain about the noise, family members interrupting you, getting on your ass about cutting the grass and taking out the trash, and as the above poster suggests, a false sense of security and comfort that may work against you when you're competing outside of your comfort zone.

If you can do it, all the power to you. My feeling would be that the environment would not be very conducive to training.

I think you need to go out of your comfort zone to train properly.

Always did best when the boxing gym was separated from the cardio/weights gym by windows. You do better work when the ladies are watching.

The Spartans used this technique and therefore it is the only way.

I imagine at their level in professional boxing, going to a gym gets to be distracting with people always recording you on their phones or bothering you for interviews/questions when you just want to focus on your up-coming fight.

So really, its just a completely different level than being an amateur.
I train better in a gym I'm familiar with but I train like **** at home due to lack of space(punched a hole in a wall by accident in one apartment :bbb).

Not a good idea probably unless you are a high level boxer...

I think it would be ok to get some bags etc. But I personally just would shadow box at home when I trained. Felt that the heavy bag is a conditioning tool, and having a coach there to push me would help more with that. When I work technique I can just practice in the mirror at home.

Sometimes you can't make it to the gym. The gym is for training-- skipping, warm up. Shadow boxing, sparring and bag work, pads. I do running, and ab work, weights and body exercise much early. Rest eat then go to the gym.
