I tried using the search function but nothing came up so I'm going to have to ask the question once more..

There seems to be a lot of discrepancy about what Oz. is best for the gloves to use on the heavy bag. My trainer told me to use 12 oz. since that is what you'd be fighting with in the ring. It does make sense to 'train as you fight' since that would go along with your timing but it seems like from what everyone has said, using that light of a glove is going to hurt your hands and that could lead to possibilities of fractures.

I've read that a lot of people prefer 14-18 oz gloves since they feel it gives them improved hand speed when they switch back to the lighter glove for matches.

Whether its a psychological or physiological reasoning behind it, I'd like to know what you guys suggest.

Normally I would just go with my trainer's advice except he is just more of an experienced welter weight boxer than a licensed trainer. I find it best to gather a bunch of different opinions so I can go from there.

I use 14oz-16oz. The most important part is just focusing on hitting the bag right.

It's not so much the weight of the glove, it's the protection. If you want to use 12 oz. gloves on the bag, then I reccomend using the Ringside IMF tech bag gloves then. If not, get atleast 16 oz.
