Stiil I would pick Ali too. But saying it would be a total mismatch, not even worth discussing, etc. is bull**** IMO.

 

A lot of gut reactions about this one.Its a bit daft these,If Tyson fought Smokin Joe,If Haye fought Ali whats the point asking opinions on it?Fighters punch harder at the weight than they did in the sixties with better diets and training techniques but i`m not saying nothing more.

come on guys, whether ali had a couple of scares against lesser fighters in his prime is beside the point. the best peak ali vs peak haye is ali by a comfortable margin. ali's got quickness in spades, top notch ring smarts, decent power, and an elite level chin. haye's got an edge in power but that's it (and ali's chin would negate that). also i'd say ali's more athletic in general and stronger despite being the same height regardless of which era it is.

I change my mind, Haye beat a big oaf in Maccarinelli at CW, that means he can beat everyone, even the greatest Heavyweight of all time.

He didn't ask who would win. He asked if they were similar in how they played into the dynamics of the division.

There's a definite similarity, if you ask me: Ali entered into a division which, like today, was pretty talented but also very dull. Patterson, Liston, Williams, Machen, Folley, Johanssen all lacked the mystique of Dempsey, Louis or Johnson. Ali brought in a fresh face and a loud mouth, which stimulated a huge amount of debate and controversy.

Haye has the chance to do the same thing, at least as far as us Brits are concerned. Haye is not on the same level, but just as Ali enlivened British interest in the heavyweight division (1960s Britain accepted Ali far more eagerly than 1960s America) so Haye can enliven British interest in the modern division.
