http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7366493.stm IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has met with Londoner David Haye to discuss a possible title showdown this year. The pair went for a meal on Thursday night to talk about the fight. The Ukrainian told BBC London 94.9: "He is looking forward to switching to heavyweight, but it's not an easy step. "There are exceptions like [Evander] Holyfield, who was a very successful heavyweight, so we'll see what David Haye is going to do." Klitschko wants the fight to be in London. "I'm looking forward to fighting in London again, because London, like Great Britain in general, has such a great boxing community, it's amazing." Haye plans to vacate his cruiserweight titles in the next few months as he prepares to step up to the heavyweight division.
interesting if true, but I think it's a bit early for David to be stepping up and taking on the world recognised HW champ! lol Fair play if he is though, he has balls and only wants the best, which I can only praise him for.
very cosy, meeting for dinner lol!!! will hayes power carry over to the heavyweights, if it does then will may see the next heavtweight champion of the world!!!
i think playboy haye had better watch out as klitschko may have other intentions for the 'meeting'! This content is protected
There are no guarantees in life so why not make the fight for the end of the year? Why wait? If Wladimir beats Thompson and Haye in the same year he can say that he eliminated a solid opponent that was being avoided left and right as well as a hard-punching phenom who many view as a legitimate threat. If Haye were to beat Wladimir we get a charismatic and exciting new champion. Either way, this fight would be bombs away and everybody would be watching.
May have been an awkward dinner in light of the comments Haye made about Wladimir following the Maccarinelli fight.
I don't see what the big deal is about moving up to heavyweight to challenge one of the champs - nobody says anything about a middle moving to supermiddle! Especially given the fact that all the current heavies are a bunch of fat puddings.
biggest fight since lewis vs tyson but to make this fight to be that big david should start knocking some top heavys out to prove he is the real deal and he is ready to face wlad , people will be so hyped up that it will be the biggest fight in boxing if it is promoted correctly
****, if true this is way too early. Haye should have some heavy fights first in order to build up his reputation, and get uset to heavier fists and harder chins.
If Haye goes straight for Wlad it could be suicide. He should have to prove himself a bit first before getting a crack at the big man.
