I was there! I'll post some pics tomorrow, but Haye is seeking Wlad out big time - it was at a press launch of a boxing gym for kids in Woolwich. Spoke to Haye before Wlad arrived, and when he did, Haye left his queue at Upper Crust to challenge him! Wlad was quite nice - Haye said Thompson's done nothing and is a nobody - Wlad retorted by saying that Thompson's been No1 for a year, and that it's Haye who's done nothing at Heavyweight. Haye is supremely confident that he will get his fight with Wlad, but myself and a couple of journos were adamant that he needs at least two fights first. Got my photo with both - will post a load up tomorrow when i'm back at home!
what have i told you before? your opinion means very little to me or anyone else here, so try to keep it to yourself:good
I think Haye needs to fight someone before calling out Klitschko ... he could turn out to be a big bust ... especially not fighting an elite HW before ... He should fight a top ranked former champion ... someone like Hasim Rahman or someone like David Tua ...
It wasn't shouting and arguing - Haye is just very keen to get to the top! I don't think there can be bad blood with Wlad - the guy is just so damn calm!
Haye needs to make a name for himself in the heavyweight division first. Why on earth would Wlad waste his time beating a very talented David Haye... who he would NEVER get credit for as people would just discredit the win as Wlad beating a blown up Cruiserweight. However, if Haye gains some weight, and proves himself in the heavyweight division against top 10 contenders, then the fans won't be able to use that excuse. Then the fight would make sense.
Have you lot heard the interview with Wlad speaking about their meeting? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7368226.stm Apologies if it's been posted or if it was in the Setanta link.
Haye is right. Haye vs Wlad is the fight we want to see. There is no reason for Haye to fight a few fights at heavyweight first. He's the recognized Cruiser weight champ. When a champ moves up in weight, it's common to give them a title shot right away. Roy Jones, Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, they all got title shots in thier first attempts to jump up in weight. Haye deserves on e too.
I would love to see Haye/Wlad, it would be an interesting battle that might have both men hitting the canvas before the fight is over. I see it looking a little like Briggs/Lewis, Haye being Briggs and Wlad being Lewis. I see Haye coming out looking for the knockout early, which is the only way I could see him beating the superior boxer and puncher in Wlad. I see Wlad weathering the storm and laying him out around the 5th or 6th, Haye's weak chin would not hold up against the power of Wlad.
