Haye and Povetkin did the right thing

Haye said two years ago that he is ONLY interested in fighting the Klitschkos. He actually accused them of cherry picking and said he would restore honor and pride in the division by only facing the best. In two years since these bold statements, he faced four HW's 36 years and older, with a staggering number of losses and gift decisions and with losses to several Klitschko - victims.

HOW THE **** IS THIS NOT DUCKING?????

What is ducking of not claiming to fight someone and then not doing it, always coming up with different reasons? Booth admitted the 50:50 offer was real. Haye has done **** to deserve 50:50. He isn't on the mountaintop where he gets to call the shots, he acts like Mayweather while having achieved less than 30% of what Mayweather achieved.

Ducking would be to have a deal on the table where everyside agrees is fair and then have one guy not take the fight. What Mayweather did is not ducking his people claim negotiations didn't happen. What Haye is doing is not ducking his people claim thier was problems over the PPV revunue. Valuev was not ducking because his contract was crap. It is easy to say they should have taken what was offered to them but be serious if it was you or I we would want to best deal possible to.

 

They wanted to keep the UK PPV and wanted the German TV to go to BID... Booth Knows damn well that the brothers have a contract with RTL and CANNOT put the fight to bid in Germany for TV

IMO asking for something you full well know cannot be done or will never be accepted is not working to get the fight... its working to NOT get the fight (ducking)

So Bowe was not ducking Lewis when he told Lewis and his manager Ogun that they wanted 90% of the total revenues or their fight was a no-go?

When he was retelling the story Lewis said when he heard that him and Ogun stood up, waved good bye and left the room.

 

I mean it is not as personal for me as it is with some fans. I think and I'm admitting I think that if a fair deal was on the table the deal would be done. I also think the first fight with Wlad the back injury was legit and I also think that he made the right move to take the Valuev fight instead of Vitali was the best move for his career. I understand the emotion and the anger behind Haye and K2 not agreeing to give us the fans the best match possible but I'm not ready to say Haye is ducking just yet.

 

That crazy 90% of the total revunue but I don't see how that is any different than K2 offering Valuev crap. Haye supposedly got a 50-50 split which I think is accpetable but I also think a problem with PPV revunue could be a sticking point for a lot of people.

 

Sigh... People still not clued up on Hayes plan?

Make good money on low risk fighters, fight one or both as retirement fights.

While it may be true that Povetkin is no match for Wladimir Klitschko, I don't see his chances as getting much better.. He actually has more like 20 pro fights ( not 16 ) and a very long and successful amateur career along with a good trainer in his corner to boot. The problem, is that he's pushing 31 years old and fighting on average maybe 2 times per year against mediocre opponents. I don't see his potential or window of opportunity growing. Its either now or never.

Haye is nearly 30 years old, has already dominated one weight class and is currently holding one of the world titles. In addition, he has already beaten the division's largest competitor, who also happens to be one of the biggest in history. There maybe a valid argument for him needing to face a few more qualified foes, but if his selection involves men like Audley Harrison, then I'd say the proposition is moot..

I can understand Wlad taking on Sam Peter as a replacement opponent for someone backing out at the last minute, but not as a serious defense or premiere attraction.. Peter is routinely out of shape, hasn't beaten a rated opponent in years and lost to Eddie Chambers who Wlad destroyed. As for James Toney, I see no rational argument in support of him fighting any title holder at this point. He is not only ancient but has done nothing significant in the division.

 

So now Povetkin is pulling out again? :-(

If Wlad gets knocked out by Peter and retires thereafter or Haye gets knocked out by some random bum I'll be here like a smug **** telling you all how the Wlad - Haye fight could have been made right here in 2010 but it was not and it's a shame.

Should Bowe - Lewis have been made before Bowe mentally disintegrated against Golota? Yes, should have. How many were dead sure the fight will "happen sooner or later, just be patient"?

Sometimes delaying a bout in boxing means it won't ever happen. Maybe we will look back at the HW division of 2010 and wonder "what if... would have, could have, should have".

 

Neither Haye nor Povetkin did the right thing.

Povetkin should not have held a spot that he knew he wasn't ready for for two years.

Haye should not taunt men who he knows will kick his ass.

I was quite a fan of both guys at one time, and unlike many, i have given up on niether. But they must now seek redemption in their careers if they want to be remembered as anything other than two guys who talked a good game but were ultimately afraid to fight.
