Haye and Povetkin did the right thing

haye was my favourite fighter. i still dont think he is ducking k2, only because i use the word ducking only when cowardice is the reason.

but whatever reason he has for not fighting them, it has bored me.

im still a fan cos he's english but you know, if you lace up the gloves north of 200 pounds you gotta be ready to take on the kltschko's.

haye aint a novice, he had a stellar amateur background, plus unified the cw division, plus he is a belt holder at hw now.

if he aint ready now, when will he be.

i cant be arsed waiting anymore, if the fight comes ill cheer for him, if he fights again in england, ill watch him. but all this insulting and avoiding has put me off him. his nationality is his only saving grace with me now.

Povetkin should have taken the fight what better way to get expeirence than fighting the champion?

 

Seriously, who gives a ****? The fight didn't happen, let's get excited about other fights that ARE happening.

 

The tile of this thread is like saying Mayweather is doing the right thing by not fighting Pac.

Everyone thinks a loss is the end of the world.
It is no big deal as long as you learn from it and come back better.

 

At the rate that Haye is fighting, do you have any idea how long a few fights will take him? We're talking years. Right now, we're going on 4 months and Haye still doesn't have an opponent for his next fight. When he finally announces it, promotes it and trains for it, it will be 8 to 9 months between fights. The guy is a part-time boxer at best. Talented, but he has no interest in being the best.

 

i agree and i do believe that is his plan.

but he should have quietly dispatched opposition rather than calling out k2 and then turning down the fight.

i expect him to fight vitali sooon, but until he does i have no time for him.

ye he has had a handful of fights at hw, ye he has achieved quite a lot as a boxer, this is even more reason why he shouldnt have started the trash talking, especially when he knew he werent gonna back it up.

 

In that case, he should have been given more thought to his choice of T - shirts...

Besides, no matchup gets a HW contender ready for the Klitschkos. Look at Chambers'win against Dimitrenko and his rude awakening, when he realized Wlad is only similar to him in size. Haye can overpower most HW contenders, he can't do that with the Klitschkos. More fights against aging non - punchers like Ruiz doesn't help him. Neither does a fight against Adamek, a fellow cruiserweight. If Haye would fight 3 - 4 times a year, maybe he could mature, but he has been fighting pretty much the same way for years now.

Povetkin is as developed as a fighter as he will be. He is 31 and has always been fighting the same way. There are some things he is good at, but he won't turn into a puncher or a head - moving speed demon.

 

They only call him out to springboard themselves into being more of a somebody...and somebody relevant. Wlad knows this.

 

A comparison after 25 fights:
Holyfield - cleaned CW division to the point there was no sense to stay there any longer, jumped to HW, got the title there and even defended it.

Haye - still not ready for a real challenge.

Povetkin - technically he has only 19 fights, but with his late "progress" I doubt a couple more fights will change much.

 

Povetkin and Haye are in different stages of their careers IMO:

- besides of the obvious financial gain of fighting Wlad, Povetkin could clearly raise his status by putting on a good performance and establish himself in the top 5 of the division. My point is that he has actually a lot more to gain by fighting Wlad than the other way around. Let's take the ex. of Sam Peter who, besides having lost to Vitali, still gets some credibility for his 1st entertaining fight with Wladimir.

- it's all different story for Haye: a defeat to the Klits would end his momentum and probably stop his career for good. He clearly has to raise the stakes by fighting more experienced/credible hw like Adamek, Gomez, Briggs or Toney. By doing so he will maximize his chances against one of the Klits and and get a bigger payday.
