Having read a few threads, I can understand why Haye is still getting criticism but both sides are guilty. More so, this time, the Klitschko camp. If you want to fault Haye for saying no to a fight on the 2nd of July, that's fine and I agree wholeheartedly. However, can't we all agree that when Wlad knew the fight was at risk, he should have forgotten about the Chisora fight? He deserves fault for that because that's the sole problem here. If he had budged on that, the fight would be signed today but it isn't. He could have had an exhibition match, fought a lower calibre guy and not have it shown on British TV or he could have gone nine months without a fight again. It makes no difference but because of his insistence the fight with Chisora must go ahead, the fight is off. Again, fault Haye for saying no, even though it's slightly understandable, but Wlad deserves a lot of negativity for not dropping or rearranging a completely pointless, irrelevant one-sided fight, which has stopped the biggest match in years from happening. I do fault Haye but I can see where he's coming from. If an injury happens, the fight is off and because of the dates, there would be a shortened publicity tour which means less money. There's logical reasons why Haye would be annoyed but I think he should have said "**** it" anyway. Both fighters are at fault somewhat. I still think a Chisora bout is utterly pointless and the root of the problem though. In the last bout of negotiations, Haye has been the one making constant concessions and should be praised for that. If he didn't want the fight, he wouldn't have agreed to everything, even absolutely stupid things like which corner both had. I just look at simple things like Wlad saying he'll fight anywhere and then refusing anywhere but Germany or the fact Haye's plea for public negotiations was rejected. Who has been stubborn, petty and shady this time?
Wait, my understanding was Haye did agree to July 2nd (as did everyone sky etc), until Wlad said he was fighting Chisora in April.
Yeah, he did. They agreed to everything. At some point, Wlad would have known Haye was ready to back out if he went ahead with the Chisora bout and he did anyway. That's what killed the fight.
Im reading different articles and it keeps changing, one min he still wants the fight on 2nd July next min it saying he doesnt...
Haye has to pay a % of his earnings from his next fight to Sauerland Promotions because of the deal he struck to fight Valuev. Wlad has one more fight on his RTL TV deal in Germany - after that he can negotiate a bigger TV deal. It is in both fighters' interests to take one more easy fight and then fight each other. Who is to blame? Both fighters. Who is to blame more? It's impossible to say. Would I be surprised if both sides were working together to mislead the fans? No.
Wlad says he will be ready to fight on July 2nd, Sky and RTL are on board. Why does it matter what happens in between? Anybody can get injured, Haye, Wlad, etc. I would understand if Sky or RTL said "no we are not willing to take the risk because we are putting money on the table", but Haye? What does he get to lose?
They are both to blame this time, with a decent amount of blame being placed on SKY. They refused to move a Khan fight with a as of yet TBA opponent. Perhaps SKY is figuring that with all this talk about retirement from Haye their best bet is not to anger Khan; who seems to likely be a factor for years to come, producing more revenue. AS far as Wlad not liking to take so much time off between fights that's his prerogative. Haye seems to fancy it having averaged around 8+ months off in between his last 5 fights. I'm sure Wlad just see's this Chisora fight as a walk through, and perhaps wants to test out his body first after the injury. I also can understand why Haye would not like to wait. If a bad cut or injury occurs the fight would have to be postponed even further. The same as Klitschko was feed up with Hayes back injury and further and further postponements. And there is no way Haye will fight twice in such a short period. Either way the outcome for the fans; of both the fighters, get screwed again. When this time like the others before it had looked so close to getting done.
Haye renegotiated his deal with Sauerland Promotions just so he could give Wlad 50/50 of the money for this fight. :hi:
Haye needs to fight in May/June though a mandatory if the July 2nd thing isnt the next fight. Wlad is creating all sorts of problems that he doesnt need to just for a meaningless fight with Chisora that he doesnt/shouldnt need atsch
What's killing the fight, is Haye's stupid retirement plan in October. He's limiting himself to two final fights, and in those two final fights he wants them to: a) Be done and dusted before October. b) Be the biggest paydays they can be. He's created a very tight schedule for himself, and is expecting Klitschko to work by it. That's why he's so pissed at Klitschko having a tune-up fight with Chisora, because it's making his shitty retirement plan go tits up.
Actually, Haye has to fight Chagaev by April 3rd. WBA can call for purse bid anytime time (90 days prior mandatory defense period expiration). They are waiting to see if unification bout can be made. WBA can easily grant Haye extension on mandatory if he fights for unification. Haye is posturing but he is in a tight spot because of his self-announced retirement and mandatory defense coming up.
Haye himself, listen from about 10 mins in and he brings up Sauerland [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnF7x-oIO-U[/ame]
