The difference between Byrd and Chambers and Haye is that Haye actually is someone with some offense. Both Chambers and Byrd were defensively minded due to the fact that they don´t posess much power. Now Haye is completely different, he has that power along with his speed, that makes him so explosive and therefor more dangerous for Wlad. I´m not saying he will beat Wlad, but it´s obvious for me that his chances of upsetting Wlad are much better than those of a defensive minded fighter.
Chamber's style is all wrong for a quick fighter. He should have concentrated on movement, and mobility in the Wlad fight. Not standing still in spots, with the high guard....
Anyone who says Chambers is faster than Haye clearly hasn't seen either fight that much. If it wasn't for Chambers' nickname, nobody on ESB would ever mention his speed and it annoys me that so many people seem to think he's actually fast. He isn't. That's purely ignorant based solely on his nickname. He may be faster than some horrifically slow heavyweights but that doesn't then mean that he's fast. His hand speed is average at best yet you go into any thread about him and you'll always see people say "He has great hand speed". That's nonsense. Someone like Larry Holmes, who isn't noted for his speed, was faster than him. Guys like Frazier or Dempsey, who also aren't noted for their speed, were faster punchers. I guess that's why people have nicknames though. There will always be gullible ****s who'll go onto BoxRec, see that a guy is fast and then come on ESB with "GUYS, CHAMBERS IS FASTER THAN TISON OR ALY!". If Andre Ward decides to get rid of "Andre 'S.O.G' Ward" and replaces it with "Andre 'This twat punches like a mule kicks' Ward", people will lap it up. Chambers is an average fighter with average speed. If he ever looks fast, it's because his opponents do a good imitation of rigor mortis not because he actually is.
Haye is faster than Chambers.... I dont think hes as fast on his feet as Byrd or has his legs, but his hand speed is close or on par with Byrds.
OT: I just re-watched Wlad-Byrd I. Wlad has damn powerful hands. The left hook that shook Byrd in the 9th was beautiful and so was the first knockdown. Two hard left hands and then the right one to the side of Byrds head. And I kinda find Byrds bird annoying. I love it how she screams when Wlad hits Byrd powerfully (no sado). Byrd was a stinker back then. I actually liked him in the second fight. Didn't he become an active christ back then?
Jack, why do you say that Larry Holmes wasn't noted for his speed? In his jab was specifically noted for it's speed and the way he could drop the right in after it could be blurring, maybe not as fast as Ali, but a damn sight faster than most around today. Even when he was 947 years old her was pretty quick. Take a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UhDuYElHEA
Check again. No one's saying Chambers is faster than anyone you mentioned, just faster than Haye, who himself is nowhere near on par with anyone you mentioned. If Haye had taken the non-hype, BS-my-way-to-a-big-money-fight, road, and actually fought legit HW contenders, he would've lost to Chambers. Chambers > Haye
Chambers is not faster than Haye and he is a lot smaller. He came in at 208 against Wladimir, which is an average fight weight for a cruiser. However they do not have a tyre round the waist. Chambers could make lightheavy. Why did wladimir not walking through this fat lightheavy.
Ask yourself how could Adamek is a lot trimmer round the waist than Eddie when he is ten pounds heavier. In Adamek shape Eddie is may be just about 200, yet he fights as a heavy.
