Don't you find that a little bit worrying? He always has something to say, and now he's in hiding. Guarantee when he does come out, it'll be with a sob story about how he's been frozen out due to money, everybody is tied up and he's been FORCED into fighting Audley.
Massively disappointing if true. Haye's rep has plummeted this year. For all the talk about being PR-savvy, surely that must be obvious to him and Booth at the moment?
I think the difference is that he genuinely thought he was the best Cruiserweight in the world and could beat anybody. I don't think he believes that at Heavyweight.
Extremely. For someone who has been unable to keep their mouth shut in the past, months without so much as a peep is a big worry. With the Valuev fight and leading up to Ruiz he became a PR giant, but he has really fizzled out. If he does come out with his sob story, I'm not buying it. By the sounds of it, he's been given a great opportunity to get the Wlad fight made and has no one but himself to blame.
The only possible defense for Haye is for him to just admit it was easy money. Then, even if you don't agree with the motive, at least he's been honest.
That is the ONLY way he'll save face. Don't know how happy Sky will be about it though. That's the last thing they'll want when they are trying to sell this as competitive.
The problem with a Haye/Harrison fight is that Haye and Booth are already on record as dismissing it. It's not going to do their already-tarnished reputation any good if a few months later they start bigging it up as a battle of Britain.
Haye will play it as him swatting an irritating fly who wont leave him alone. He'll say he's doing the boxing world a favour by getting rid of Audley once and for all. He'll say these things, we'll enjoy the build up.....and most of us will buy the ppv. What's more important is a whole load of casual boxing fans will buy it too.
Is the money from the casual audience going to be worth the damage done to his career by the journos (who are going to absolutely rip him a new hole over this) and more dedicated fanbase? He's going to get some absolutely phenomenal stick over this. There just comes a point when you've got to bite the bullet and do what's going to benefit your career and standing. I'm sure Lewis wasn't exactly thrilled about a 33-66 purse split for Holyfield I, but took it and it paid dividends for him.
Maybe Haye feels he's a big enough attraction now to be able to not care what hardcore boxing fans think? Maybe its just about putting 20,000 arses on seats as many times as possible before the gets beat/ retires? Good point on Lewis, I just don't think Haye is as confident he can beat Wlad as Lewis was that he could beat Holy.
I look forward to him selling this one. No disrespect to A-Force, but there are probably 100 boxers in the world who would stop him within 7. Haye could go out and win this fight but slip down the rankings as soon as Adamek or Chagaev beat someone better. Fighting Monte Barrett again is probably more credible than this
It's a bull**** fight, but I'm giving up on caring about it anymore. I can understand why theyre going for it, another good payday and it will build up Haye even more in the eyes of casual fans (and it will). It's a shame, but what can you do.
