A recent letter in Boxing News stated that if Haye unified titles at heavyweight he may surpass the achievements of Lennox Lewis. Is this something you'd agree with?

Get the **** outta here................you can't be serious. Haye has had exactly 1 HW fight vs. a guy a never heard of until Haye fought him.

Initially I'd say not. It depends if he has any sort of reign at heavy. What he's done at cruiser so far is good but lets not get carried away.

Perhaps a quick read of the thread itself would be in order before you jump in with both feet. :good

I think if he did unify then he still wouldn't surpass what Lewis achieved throught out his career. I'd disagree with the writers comments. For me even if Haye did beat Klitschko, Peter and Chagaev, which I don't think he could, then he still wouldn't have achieved the type of domination Lewis enjoyed.

I agree. Simply unifying the belts would not surpass Lewis' achievements. Thats the problem with this country people always get too carried away with regards to sporting achievment. Some are all too ready to proclaim someone as "the next big thing". Theo Walcott & Amir Khan are examples of this.

Haye has done well, no doubt about that, but its much too early to be comparing him to a top ten all time heavyweight great.

There simply ain't the competition for ANYBODY to surpass Lewis's achievements at the weight. Haye has the best chance to get close from an overall viewpoint, because he'll have come up from cruiser which is a rare feat

He'd have to be undisputed and hope a new crop of good heavyweights magically crop up

    My fault then, Wlad!

Your response indicated so - but the question was whether if he beat Klitschko, Peter and Wlad, considering the current climate, could an arguement be made that his achievements surpasses those of Lewis.

Lewis also helped to fragment the belts by not fighting Byrd or Ruiz. Not that I'm saying he was afraid or anything but he did the division a disservice.

Wladimir has yet to match Lennox's achievements but he still has a chance albiet a slim one due to the lack of big names currently fighting in the division. If Haye beats 2 or 3 top 10 or 15 ranked Heavys and then he gets KO'd brutally by Wlad that would increase Klitschko's chances IMO. Likewise for Haye himself.

Unification would bring any fighter closer but it depends a lot on how impressive those wins are.

People have argued that Lewis dominated a weak division, which I find astonishing.
