A leading bookmaker has defended WBA heavyweight champion David Haye amid criticism that he bet on himself to stop Audley Harrison in the third round last night. After two extremely quiet rounds in Manchester, Haye burst into life in the third session and obliterated his woefully over-matched rival to keep his title. In the process, Haye collected a reportedly significant sum - as did his friends and family - having specifically bet on himself to win in that round. The 30-year-old even boasted about it after the fight. http://www.sportinglife.com/boxing/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=boxing/10/11/14/BOXING_Manchester_Betting_Nightlead.html
He didn't bet on himself to lose, the worst you could argue is a 'points shaving' type scam, but in boxing that is virtually impossible to prove or even argue because even had Haye pressed from round 1 onward, whats to say Harrison wouldn't have survived until that point.
