So, it's blowing up in the English media now that Haye said in his post-fight interview that he bet on himself to win in round three, after what seemed like a completely inactive first two rounds. In the first real exchange of the fight, Haye hurts Harrison, then puts him down for a 9 count in the 3rd round before finishing him a few seconds later. The ridiculousness of this match aside, what are your thoughts regarding a boxer betting on himself against a markedly inferior opponent, carrying him to the third, and then knocking him out? I'm of the opinion that there's nothing wrong with a boxer betting on himself to win. That's fine. If you're that confident, go for it. But when it comes to picking the specific round and changing the fight based on that, as appears to be the case in this fight, since it appears obvious Haye could have finished Harrison right at the opening bell if he so chose, then you're screwing with all of the bets placed by the fans. I think the only reason anyone paid any money for the fight was morbid curiosity about whether or not Harrison would finally choose to retire after one of the most underwhelming careers in recent heavyweight history. But what do you think about the bet?
People shouldnt bet if they dont like **** like that, as a none gambler i couldnt give a toss. Id rather pay 15 quid for 3 rounds than 1 no matter how inactive they were. And its not like Haye dragged it out for 7 or 8 boring rounds before finishing the job. It was 2 boring rounds. Ive watched the Klitchkos do similar things, 9 boring rounds in which they could step up and attack heavy at any point but dont. And i dont complain about them either.
if haye can do that again 10 more times against real challengers...he could be mentioned with muhammad ali but he didnt once, against audley ****in harrison <insert joke>
The fact is that the odds were so lop-sided for this fight anyway that the only real chance for Haye to make even semi-decent money off a bet would be to pick the round. Backing himself to win wouldn't have gained him much. I'm not defending him; it's more an indication of how unbalanced the fight was to begin with.
Hayes a joke. Harrison should have his licence taken not be payed 3 million£ for that steam turd performance.
he may have bet on round 3 and he may of told people (like George Grooves suggested) which round to bet on. But he could not garantee it, like he said in the interview - he wanted to KO Audley in round three but if Audley had acted up and been more agressive he might not have done it.
Audley was just getting warmed up. I've witnessed every single one of Audley's fights and no doubt he just got caught cold. If it went past six, there would only be one winner.
not if someone else puts the bet on for you i predicted round 3 also, it will be on here somewhere, won a few quid of one of my mates ......he had harrison for every other round and i picked the 3rd for haye. should have put it on at the bookies!
