I agree with him. Watching DeGale is like watching paint dry: paint that's going over old paint of the same colour. And the colour is grey.
:thumbsup Yup bang on the money there. I saw nothing in Degale that made me think he could make a succesful transition. His still quite easy to hit fundamentally flawed and has much to learn and adjust if he does go pro. The problem with amateur boxing is its not even close to the pro game now.
Its not so much that a fighter is big headed and big ego and believes in himself - its the way they do it - that depends if I like them or not. For me Haye has always seemed a bit of a knob because he is so in love with himself - I mean just look at his MYSPACE page and the photos and the way he talks about himself. Actually I am not particularly a big fan of Ali - the guys a boxing legend no doubt - but pheraps because he was before my time - I never been that big a fan. But on the other hand - I loved Naz when he was fighting - and he was a arrogant big headed show off - but I always wanted him to win and I was his biggest fan. So it just depends on the individual and wether I warm to them or not. At the beginning I thought Haye was a proper fraud. Big headed and boasting before he had done it. But since then he has proved me wrong. I didnt think he would beat Mormeck or Maccarenelli. I thought Mormeck would stop him. I thought Maccarenelli would knock him out cold. Both times Haye proved me wrong. I am a believer in Haye now - as a proper world class champion. Despite the negative things I have said about Haye - I dont hate him. He is not a bad or nasty guy. I just think he is a big headed posing knob - who loves himself way too much.
Ali much like Naz had the skills to back it up. Those that are qualified to talk can talk. Haye is essentially a playboy and reminds me alot of John Conteh.
good comparsion. I dont know too much on Conteh because he was well before my time. But I remeber seeing a picture of him in his prime down the beach with a gang of beautiful women. thats what Haye is all about the girls the partys the flash the talk the style the status the cold hard cash - he says is his main motivation and of course he is not at all humble about it - he is just like - look at me aint I so just the best
pretty shady thing to do to shoot the kid down before he's begun. Degale got robbed against groves. I might be the only one but I don't think haye has a bad style for the pro's. Did u see him against sutherland when he was winding up those nice hooks and uppercuts and winging them in like a good pro counter puncher. u don't see amateurs doing that alot.
Conteh was very brash and charasmatic much like Haye. He was very popular during the 70`s with his model-eqsue looks and penchant for the high life. Some compared him as Britains own Ali in terms of flair. He was sharp and witty just like Ali and the two met in the ring once although not for a fight. As a fighter John was an excellent box puncher who didnt mind mixing it up if he had too. His probably one of Britains best fighters of all times and certainly one of the best fighters in Britain ever at 175. Shame he never moved to heavy and fought Ali. That fight would have been huge.
