Haye doesnt have unfinished business at cruiser weight.Cunningham had two very weak fights with former Polish world champ Wlodarcyzk and didnt set the world on fire with his victory over the inexperienced German based Huck who would have beaten Cunningham if he hadnt relied too much on his firepower. I for my part would prefer Haye defending his title against his mandatory Kraj, but to be fair Haye is looking for bigger fish to catch. He is right in doing so.
Haye doesnt need to prove anything anymore at cruiser weight. Cunningham didnt convince against his inexperienced opponent Huck and neither did he look that great against the limited Pole Wlodarcyzk. There are better fighters than Cunningham at cruiser weight.
You dont need every belt in a division to be labelled undisputed. That's crazy and unrealistic and is only going to happen once in a blue moon. Haye beat the man, he also beat one of the other two belt holders. He has 3 out of 4 of the belts, that makes him undisputed. Cunningham has a belt, that's it.
I'm pretty sure there's 4 main belts! I'm sure you're not counting the WBO but look at the IBF and WBA's recent history and try to justify their inclusion! I would say that David Haye has little to do at cruiserweight. He beat the man at 200lbs in Mormeck and then flattened the #2 guy in Macca. Yes Cunningham is now the next in line but there is always going to be someone next in the line. Haye will move up to heavy and then Cunningham has the chance to prove he is the best at 200lbs. I'm sure Macca, Aaron Williams, Kraj, Herbie Hide, Eric Fields and Thomas Adamek will provide enough opposition for him.
He was the champ of the division, instead of going afte Maca, why didn't he go after the #1 rated challenger in Cunningham.
The fight with Maccarinelli was not made on the merits of Maccarinelli's resume, but on the fact that it was (a) an 'all-British showdown' and (b) Haye was offered a stack of money. Neither of those two factors were present with Cunningham. If Maccarinelli was an anonymous guy with no fans from Philladelphia, then that fight wouldn't have been made either.
We will be lucky to ever see an undisputed champion again if we go by the respected BigReg's criteria. Even dumbasses realise that belts are worthless. Haye is far and away the number one in his division. Nobody can possibly argue he is behind Cunningham. He is the undisputed champion, deal with it.
I would strongly favour Macca over Cunningham. That's a different question though. Any way you look at it they were the #1 and #2 challengers. The reason he fought Macca is simple, money and public interest. Have you ever seen Cunningham fight in front of 20,000 people? The fight was on at 2am local time and the place wa still packed and had an amazing atmosphere. The fight had huge interest in it and generated great paydays for both.
haye shouldn't run his mouth about being undisputed. he could be by simply beating USS and he could make it at a 210 catchweight or something. guarantee a cunningham fight would make more money than whatever hw stiff they first put haye in against. at a catchweight, the fight would be good experience for haye also. the bottom line is that cunningham owns a legit belt and throw in the fact that haye has lost to carl thompson and mac was recently defending against bobby gunn, and it's easy to make the argument that haye was NOT undisputed.
Here is a list of every fighter who has ever held all 3 major belts at the same time, it's not as hard as you make it out to be. In addtion, there are a few fighters who are 1 fight away from from holding all 3 major belts at once. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_undisputed_boxing_champions* * please note that every fighter on this list did not hold all 3 major titles at once, but that every fighter who has held all 3 major titles at once is on that list. The belts are worthless, yet every fighter chases after them and most fans call for them to be unified.
