Haye/Harrison Press conference tomorrow (07/09)

Thats what gets me. I understand people being annoyed, I just don't get the shock and surprise from people who must know how boxing has always worked.

 

Oh I know Haye's not the only one to do it, but most of them get flack for it, so I don't see why Haye should be a special case.

Also, I think fighting Audley (domestic level really) is really testing the limits, especially given Haye's very own big mouth rhetoric over the past several years.

I remember a while ago hearing Booth himself speaking out about a Harrison fight (it was on 5live), hoping that Haye wouldn't choose to have such a fight, saying he's knows Haye will get slated for it sic (or pretty much words to that effect).

If Haye's very own trainer speaks out about it, doesn't wish to defend it, I don't think it wrong for your average fight fan to say I don't like that and won't encourage it.

Is this guy any more worthy of a title shot than Harrison?

Not sure mate but Hearns' other 2 defences before the Leonard fight were also less than stellar. A 15-0 kid who'd never fought out of Venuzuela and Randy Shields who'd already lost to Cuevas, Leonard, Benitiez, Ranzany and quite a few others.

A bit of an unfair comparison though, Hearn's was just 22/23 and had just won his first ever title only a year earlier. He fought three months before that fight and Sugar Ray Leonard just two months later - I think you may have scored an own goal there Gaz.

Haye is now in the climax of his career, will be 30 at the time of this next fight and has been shouting off to the world about what he's going to do in the HW divsion.

 

my attitude is lets get it on and done haye makes a nice chunk of change and sparks audley ending our suffering of him and goes on to fight a klit in march/april

 

So this gets announced tomorrow and until November there'll be countless threads on the topic, mostly slagging Haye off...can't wait...

Not at all, you missing the points I'm making. I wasn't commenting on Hearns or Hayes activity levels (Hayes is just not good enough). Check out Hearns' other 2 fights in the 12 months leading up to Leonard, both poor opponents.

The points are that 1) champs usually like a few defences before they try to unify and 2) those defences arn't always against the best competition.

And if we see the fight when Haye is 31 then is it really the end of the world?

 

Anyway, he's not fighting Audley, we all know really, he's going to announce tomorrow that he's taking on the Klits, tag team!!

I reckon he'll suddenly have to get another mandatory out of the way in Chaguev.
