Even for those that do not appreciate David Haye's meteoric rise in the Heavyweight ranks, he remains a popular topic of conversation. Unfortunately, (for him) Haye has painted himself into the proverbial corner. The next fight he makes may just be the most important one in his life because it will decide his legitimacy at heavyweight. As I see it, he has two choices: he can either fight a Klitschko or rest and wait to fight his mandatory (Chagaev or Meehan). Of course, these choices will lead him to two very different points. If he does go on and beat a Klitschko on HBO, he may just become an international boxing superstar, the first in the heavies since Lennox Lewis. On the other hand, if he decides to wait and defend his title agains the usual suspects, people will lose interest and he will be nothing more than a popular UK champion with a belt. Really, there's a reason why Khan beat him to HBO. They want to see him against a Klitschko...nothing else will do. But what do you think? Can Haye become a superstar by fighting around the K brothers?
yes he can. HBO will take Adamek vs Haye. Also he should have fought Areola before Adamek. And when he does fight a K bro it gotta be Vitali first.
I disagree, Seems more like Haye is the man & Both Klits want him. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
No he is losing fans by the day. This 'resting' **** is priceless, and classic Haye. He fought Ruiz over 6 weeks ago, if he needs to rest so badly then maybe he should think about retiring and do boxing a favour. He probably realises now he has enough casual fans not to need hardcore fans any more. The casuals only hear his side of the story so he can feed them whatever BS he wants to. He gets away with this because the media ****ing love him, and don't dare offend him by asking tough questions. I'd love to see him On The Ropes and responding to calls from the boxing community, but for some reason I don't thin he'd be too keen on that
It depends on your point of view. According to most Klitschko fans, they want David Haye because he present at least a modest challenge. It is quite clear that Haye used them to make a name for himself at heavyweight. But what he and his management team have failed to consider is the fact that most of the hype around Haye was directly related to the assumption that he would take on a Klitschko. If he doesn't do that, and soon, he'll be little more than a popular UK fighter. Also, it's debateable whether or not HBO will broadcast Adamek vs. Haye. From what I've read, they're not to high on Haye after he famously faked a back injury and pulled out of their fight on a few weeks notice.
I somewhat agree.... with how inactive haye is, and with pressure mounting to fight someone who is relivent and highly regarded, i think hes approaching the '**** or get off the pot' area where he might start to recieve some backlash if he doesnt fight a significant fight soon.
I don't pretend to say that David Haye is the Number 1 HW. Absolutly not. The #1a guy is defo Wlad, w/Vitali at 1b. (Like a 2 headed monster) Who will never fight one another. Haye represents the last true challenge to both in this reign. So when I say I disagree about a "crossroads" I mean in reality Haye has alot more options to choose from not named Klit. DH could realistically hold out as long as he wants, as long as he continues to win. wait out both Klits & catch them on the decline.
What Haye and his mangement team do not understand is that much of the hype that has propelled him to this point was based on the assumption that he would fight a Klitschko, and soon. The longer he waits, the more fans he will inevitably lose.
I agree with you. What I should have said is that he is a fork in the road. As I see it, he has two choice: one of which could make him a superstar now, while the other one will do nothing for him...In fact, if he waits to fight another WBA retread, it will be a step back.
The guy has 25 fights with one defeat. Are you not overreacting a bit? And you wonder why boxers of today has has such a smaller pool of work compared to classic fighters. We have the attention span and patience of a fruit fly. As if one defeat is the end of the world. If he takes up 2 warm up fights good. As long as he takes on meaningful fights later down the road.
