That's why we've had all those unification fights, right?

Do you seriously believe Haye wouldn't beat:

    Travis Walker
    Israel Carlos Garcia
    Chazz Witherspoon
    Cliff Couser

Those by the way, the last 4 fights of Arreola. (I had to boxrec that).

I knew he beat Walker and Witherspoon, never heard of Garcia, and Couser is, well, Couser. (Yes he KO'd Barrett. Yes, he got smashed in the rematch. )

If you don't believe being top dog in cruisers, coming up and beating Barrett is at least equal to that, then I'm astounded.

Haye lost any credibility long ago. He is just a publicity hound. His performance in the ring cannot ensure him enough media attentions so that he decided to use the best fighters in the world, Vitali and Wladimir KlitschKO to pump up a little his balloon... which will burst when Haye faces a top heavyweight.

Well, I cant say I am pro Haye but I was happy that he choosed Barett instead of Rahman or Toney. With all due respect, these are two fat old geezers who Haye would had blown away inside the first two rounds one after another in the same night. Both would have fought safety first style to avoid any serious damage by all means and land a lucky punch. And further more Toney just keeps in business because of his trashtalking. At this stage no contender would get any credit for beating one of these two. Rahman and Toney can fight on a Joe Louis Remembrance Day. But thats it.

Every big fight that has taken place in the last year or so has had these "issues" were negotiations have broken down, the fight is off etc etc etc.
Its all bull****, marketing strategy, or what people in the industry refer to ass "jeapordy", its builds interest, adds drama which generates publicity in the fight.

To be fair to Waldi that's not his own fault. I am certain Waldi wants to unify the titles, but in nowadays HW picture it's practically impossible because the WBA and WBC (and also the IBF) put too many obstacles in the way for unification. I mean the situation with the WBC has been difficult during the last years and now his own brother has that belt, and we all know what the deal is with the WBA, they don't even have a 'unified' WBA champ... while he unified with the WBO when he had the chance to

Basically I agree with the thread-starter. My thoughts on it are that I think Klitschko-Haye would be the most exciting fight at HW to be made right now, and also the most important except for an improbable unification with Valuev. But Haye is indeed losing credibility, he has to understand that while he may be huge in the UK he's not more known to casual sports fans in the rest of the world than let's say Hasim Rahman. Boxing fans know he may be the most promising out of the young HWs but that doesn't mean **** really. Waldi can make just as much money fighting Arreola or even Toney in LA or Vegas than Haye in London. I mean ok Haye's been the CW champ, but he's only beaten a past his best Barrett at HW, who is not even a contender these days anymore, and now he gets a shot at Waldi - that would have been unthinkable ten years ago. And Waldi would even travel to London - I mean what more does Haye want? He should take the fight and be gratefull, he got what he wanted, plus he's been talking so much trash the last few months and now he's getting reluctant - that's ridiculous. Of course there's not many other credible opponents for Waldi out there, but who does Haye think who he is? Lennox Lewis??
If this fight doesn't come off this summer it's Haye who will be considered as a clown by the boxing world, not the Klitschkos. It was Haye who opened his mouth about that fight, it was he who wanted it all the way. If he was clever he'd just have waited one more year in order to really acclimate with the HWs, he's just not ready for Waldi yet, maybe he's realized it by now but sorry it's too late, he has to put his money where his mouth is...

To me it doesn't exactly seem like Waldi is outpricing himself or looking for ways out of the fight. And Vitali is out of the picture since he has to fight two mandatories in Gomez and Maskaev, not his fault either. BTW Gomez truly deserves his shot at the belt, while Maskaev getting a shot is ridiculous, WBC bull**** politics again...

As for the rumours about Toney-Arreola, excellent fight for Toney to get back on track (if he wins), and the fight would be huge in Cali. But I guess Goossen doesn't want it to happen because he doesn't want to risk damaging his young HW 'star' by putting him in with Toney, he knows he can make more money with Arreola putting him into the ring with Klitschko later this year...

It is not about who Haye "would beat" but who he has beaten at heavyweight. Answer no one. You do not win fights outside, you gotta perform inside the ring. Waldo has done it, Haye not.

UK folks gotta realize that Haye is not a big draw outside the UK so far.

Barret's a decent win at heavyweight (after the way he blitzed Fields, he showed he's not completely shot). However, the only thing Haye brings to the table is money; and, if he's not willing to give that up, why would anyone waste their time with him. British fans are so consumed with their typical nut-huggery, that they don't realize that Wlad could walk away from this fight; and that no one outside of the UK would give a ****.
