All this talk about Haye is good but he's not anything great -- The cruiserweight division is not tops of the boxing world. Only station that airs cruiserweights is ESPN and of recent Showtime. Evander Holyfield was a better boxer, faster, and more illusive than Haye at cruiserweight. He was also undefeated and didn't rely on his power as much -- which made it easier for him to adjust against much bigger, stronger guys. I don't see that in Haye ... I don't think that Haye will do anything special in the HW division -- I don't think he can outbox Klitschko or Peter ... he's a power puncher w/ fast hands. He's will continue to rely on his power at HW and of rercent there are more boxers in the HW divison. He beat some good cruisers but HW is a different league ... Klitschko is bigger, just as fast if not faster, and is a better boxer. I'm not trying to take anything away from Haye but soon this talk will come to an end and Haye will have to prove himself in the ring.
Evander Holyfield faster? LOL......atschatschatschatsch But the most ridicolous assessment you've made is "he'll continue to rely on his power". Have you ever seen a Haye fight? How can you say that? Maybe he'll get knocked out cold in his first try at HWs, but no man with a grain of commonsense would say that he's a fighter who only relies on power. He's smooth, he's a beauty to watch, he can land every punch in the book but once again, I'm not saying this will be enough at HW, but at least he will be a HW who can fight, and not another slow plodder who resembles one of those guys who fight in the Toughman contest.
Haye's a faster puncher than wlad no doubt - but talking all into account, wlad would allow haye to have his fun in the first 3-4 rounds before breaking him down in the 7-8th round. other than that, haye could destroy every other heavyweight (apart from maye solis)
Dude he has only went the distance once ... if thats not relying on power I don't know what is. Yeah he may have speed and skills but at the end of the day -- he's expecting to knock you out.
I'm not saying he has to be like Holyfield but all this hype and jumping to conclusions in not neccessary. I wasn't taking anything away from him -- i'm just saying lets see him fight a top HW before crowning him.
I'm not concerned so much if Haye will dominate at HW; he probably won't. BUT, you'd be hard pressed, I think, to say he doesn't bring a bit of excitement. Look at Povetkin - not the biggest or strongest guy in the world, but causing good ripples in the division. If Haye steers clear of Wlad (Povetkin's potential mistake) for a while, he can win a belt and maybe help clear out the plodders. I have nothing to criticize in that.
Th Bonin fight was fairly typical of a heavyweight plodder , like most , Haye will KO them in one or two rounds. Dont forget though , Haye has been in some tough fights , been down , been cut and lost. He is well schooled , experienced and lear'nt many lessons , its not like a inexperienced young fighter starting out , In my opinion , Haye is going straight to the top , it would be great to see him fight Wlad , the biggest test sure , but for me Haye wins.
Your post isn't logical. Just because his power is winning the day doens't mean he's relying on it at the expense of other things. He is a skilled boxer who has power. He is not waiting for one big shot and losing rounds at the same time. That is an example of a fighter who "relies on power".
That's not 'relying on power', thats no-one has been able to handle his power. You can discount the one time that Haye went the distance btw. It was almost as if he had decided that he needed to do the full distance to prove he could and was actively trying not to knock the guy out. Barely threw a right hand all fight.
What an unbelievably stupid comment. What should he do, turn his power down to minimum so he can get a lower KO ratio, and not 'rely' on his power. The one time he won without the KO was a deliberate attempt to go 12 rounds. But should he do that all the time? Would you rather Tyson had fought like Chris Byrd so he did not get to 'rely'on his power? Moron.
Haye may not be as good as Holyfield but he doesn't need to be. The heavyweight division is terrible at the moment.
I don't like the thread but isnt it great to have a heavyweight worth ****ing talking about? i can't even be bothered to watch the heavy title fights these days
