Haye is no Evander Holyfield ...

I like Haye, but i dont think his display of power at Cruiser can gauge what it will be like at heavy. Wlad would more then likely destroy him, and i dont want to hear that Wlad is some safety first fighter, way to many KOs on his record for that.

 

Holyfield also had huge problems to take the heavyweight punch, just that he fought his heart out and went beyond the barrier of pain against Michael Dokes in 1989. Actually, Evander is a very good example of what is the main factor to be tested again with Haye... The capacity to sustain the big punch and fight back. Remember that Holyfield, at 205 lbs, had to box in circles and out of blazing combinations against 250 pounder Foreman, and his head was snapped back every time George landed a shot... Holyfield was dropped by Bert Cooper in the Omni, Atlanta, GA and he clearly couldn't go toe to toe beyond six with bigger Riddick Bowe... It has always been like this, Alfred Ice Cole, Orlin Norris, Vassily Jirov, they all had problems with the heavier men and bigger punch. Even Herbie Hide is campaigning at Cruiser now and Chris Byrd is planning to go down just for that reason.

 

Holyfield is continiously overrated because he was such a fearless warrior and achieved more than most expected. But he NEVER domianted the HW division:

He lost four out of five against the two best big HW's of his ear, Bowe and Lewis

He struggled quite a bit with ancinet versions of Foreman, Holmes and the undersized Chyz, Moorer, Byrd, Toney

Two of his three kockout victories againt elite opponents were against overweight, unfocued fighters (Douglas, Moorer in he rematch)

His sole knockout against an in - shape elite fighter was against Tyson, truly impressive, but weighed against his losses and close wins against past -their prime opponents, it was a highlight in career with lots of ups and downs

 

Evander could take a punch. Haye has yet to take one from a top 10 heavy. Something tells me, he can't.

 

I agree, Haye is no Evander Holyfield, he's much much better than that.
