I watched the fight down the local club, Setanta are really delivering these days!! Pretty loud, so little studio, commentator interferrence coming through. Here are my thoughts. For the first four to five rounds, I thought Haye was fighting like Audley Harrison, he was really poor. I had him, 4-6 rounds down, with the KD after the first half of the fight. Haye then won a round, and scored the stoppage when he eventually threw an uppercut on target. I was surprised he won. He's the WBA/WBC champ! Macca or 200+ ? :huh
I'd like to see an Enzo fight at cruiser in the spring but Haye was quite emphatic he's moving up to Heavy.
I thought Haye's workrate was a bit low, but I have a feeling this was part of the plan. He seems extra wary of gassing since the Carl Thompson fight, and didn't want to make the same mistake against a man known for gassing. This was a big time title fight against a first class opponent, and winning it in France was never going to be easy. Enzo is not in his league and is probably relieved he is moving up to heavyweight.
this was a fantastic win. have to keep reminding myself that he's gone to the home-turf of the undisputed number 1 cruiserweight in the world and knocked him out. however, the performance made watching this difficult viewing and i was sure he was going to get ktfo after he went down in the fourth. can't wait to see how is HW campaign goes. just because he looks vulnerable at cruiserweight does not mean he'll get KOd by the first decent hw puncher he comes up against. whatever happens, i don't think we'll see him in a dull fight (unless he fights skelton!)
Haye-Maccarinelli only happens @ heavy. If not, the it does not happen, Haye has made this clear. Haye has stated he's moving up to HW & I for one am glad he fonally is making it a permanent move. Haye cannot keep making 200lbs. I think Haye's chin will be more sturdier up @ heavy. He even admitted last night that his legs felt hollow a couple of days before the fight & even more so @ the weigh-in. Making the weight clearly took it's toll on Haye. However, he showed heart & desire to come back from the knockdown. Haye beat the recognised No.1 in his own backyard. I know David personally & I'm really happy for him. Many people feel he's very arrogant, but he's just a character who has a lot of confidence. Nothing wrong with that at all! David is the man to put the HW division bakc on the map. Haye had around a four month training camp in Northern Cyprus & I think he'll be training there from now on.
