Agreed, he needs to sort the left hand out. He uses this, it seems to me, to try to lure people in so he can counter punch. At heavy this is a massive error as he'll be KO'd if someone catches him. As for the Thompson fight I can only echo what has already been said. He stepped up to take this fight on his 11th outing. I respect him for taking it. That defeat has changed the way he approaches his fights. He still has KO power and speed but he is alot more patient and willing to box rather than just go for KO. I'd fancy Haye against any of the smaller heavies at the moment (personally I think he'd KO Peter and decision Chagaev) but he should bed in slowly against the bigger ones. If I was Haye, Wlad and Valuev I would leave until next year!
FOR **** SAKE watch Mayweather, Roy Jones Jnr, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson, James Toney, Joe Calzaghe, Pernel Whitacker. Some of the best fighters in history, They all fight with there hands slightly lower than it really should be. Its is a tactic that they use for two reasons, it draws the opposition into a false sene of security and makes them come forward, the fighter using the tactic uses his fast reactions (something Haye certainly has, and will be better at H/W as the punches are slower) to dodge and duck these pucnhes and fire back with a counter. Also it is much worse for the opposition to completley miss the target than be blocked as not feeling any impact saps energy faster than anyhting. It also generates more punching power in the hand that is down. Thise is something Haye showed perfectly in the fight with Macceranelli.
Has Roy Jones ever been caught out taking drugs???? Haye has never been knocked out, fact. And i want a reason why all the other guys I have emntioned will do better than Haye???
NO he takes his time now. The left hand thing is the way he fights. He has the reflexes to make you miss
Who gives a **** if he has a small head anyway? If anything it would be an advantage - less of a target
Even if thats true, the heavyweights he will be fighting will find it harder to hit an apponent as they are much slower. Macceranelli missed Haye alot of times in there fight, and he is faster than any H/W out there are the moment, including Wlad. Haye was hit agianst Fragomeni and Mormeck because he new he would have to take a bit of punishment to dish it out because of the way they fight. This is why I feel Chagaev is a much more dangerous opponent for Haye than Wlad. Haye can knock Wlad out with 1 big punch, he will have to break down Chagaev and he wont be able to KO Chagaev with 1 punch.
People should try not to focus so much on the Carl Thompson bout. Haye, at that early stage in his career, thought he could just out and KO anybody within the first couple of rounds. He has learned his lesson, and takes his training a lot more seriously these days. He has gone the full 12 rounds before without running out of steam, against Ismail Abdoul, and has shown that he can come through adversity and still win, like when he fought Giacobbe Fragomeni; he had a few rough patches against the unbeaten Italian but still got the KO.
I'm sorry, but when it comes to "boxing skill" Haye and Toney shouldn't be in the same sentence. For a start the man has no defense. I'd reckon Toney would beat him, the dude leaves himself wide open. And don't give me that "he lures people in" "it's a trick", it's got him tagged many a time, he is no defensive wizard.
Your statements are looking increasingly thin Yes, Roy Jones has tested positive for a banned substance, I think 2000 or 2001. The only reason Haye wasnt put in a coma against Carl Thompson was due to his corner waving the white flag
There seems to be many people axching for Haye to fail at heavyweight, I think everyone should be supporting him as he is one of the few boxers out there who constantly seeks the best fights, and the fights the fans want. And he is also entertaining to watch, and isnt a complete ****. But some of you are just dying for him to be kncoked out because the only acheivements you have in life is when you get to come on a forum after predicting a fight correctly and posting threads saying " I told you so " eeedyats
But what about frame size ? these guys apart from Spinks had thick set bodies and a proper head and neck. Even the shorter Evander looks a more natural HW than Haye. Statistics only work on paper
I hope Haye cleans up at Heavyweight because he is great to watch! I just hope he waits a little while before the bigger heavies. He could make a fight with Peter tomorrow and knock him out IMO
Against Bonin when he was 220 i think he looked nice and filled out and natural. At cruiser he looks really drained and too cut. He looks a lot stronger filled out
I suspect he'll be another Jeremy Williams at heavyweight, only a little taller. Maybe a closer comparison would be Davarryl Williamson. It is true. Haye does not have the appearance of someone who could take a heavyweight punch. You don't have to be a hater to recognize that.
