Certainly comparisons. And same sort of result. Haye is going to knock Bitchschko the **** out and save heavyweight boxing.
In terms of the pre fight talk and situation it is a bit like Clay - Liston, but in terms of the fight itself they are nothing alike really.
How dare you insult Ali by comparing him to Haye and how dare you insult Liston by comparing him to Wlad.
He didn't say Haye was as good as Ali or Wlad was as good as Liston. Just making an observation that the mood is similar going into both these fights. Chill out
i agree, i suppose, with the post in the sense that the personalities are somewhat the same. but ali was more of a fine-tuned athlete, less of a wild banger, a total package technician, and he was undefeated...there was very little in the way of a known path to get over on ali at that point. there were some minor questions about ali's chin after sonny banks knocked him down, but, unlike haye he had never been stopped and was only down once as opposed to pathologically. i am not dogging on haye. it just seemed different to me. klitschko is chinny and always vulnerable to a good, clean shot...sonny liston had never been stopped and, i am pretty sure, had never even been down (though i am not certain about that). liston was a hugely underrated technical boxer who had one of the best jabs in heavyweight history (nobody came close to larry holmes, but liston's was vicious and accurate). in addition, unlike wlad, sonny had career-ending power in both hands that could be delivered in a single blow. wlad is a hard hitter, no doubt, but his power isn't so vaunted, he doesn't have the fear factor on his side because of his punch power. like i say, maybe i am nitpicking...there are definitely shades of the same dynamic of ali v. liston here. i am not downing the post at all. maybe i am just trying hard to resist comparing truly all-time elite fighters like liston and ali to wlad and the hayemaker.
i will say this though, wlad seems to be getting was darker and more moody and pissed off at haye as the hype progresses. haye, for his part, seems to be getting more smirkingly sure of him self and snotty and self-rightious about saving the heavyweight division. maybe they are turning ali/liston, after all. i guess it just remains to be seen whether the upstart actually will elevate the division in some way like ali did. or if the brooding grizzly will have some symbolic, vicarious revenge decades after the fact.
