After watching the HBO Face-Off I was wondering whether this reminds anyone of Mayweather v Hatton in 2007? Hatton had a similar amiable and reserved personality to Wladimir and was tipped to be unaffected by Floyd's pre-fight drama. However as it unfolded, Hatton began to show cracks (very similar to Wlad on HBO) and it became obvious he was intensely bothered by Mayweather's obnoxious war-of-words. Arguably Hatton lost the plot and therefore the fight before he even stepped into the ring. Contrasts can be drawn by the fact that Floyd was favourite going into the fight. But I think last night shows that Wlad has been drawn out of his comfort zone and Haye, whilst immature and distasteful, was no different to usual and came across far more relaxed.
Yes mate, I think that is an excellent point. The line I'd draw is that I'd say whilst it is regrettable David will not fight on, if he goes out having unified the division then he can still be very proud of what he has achieved. However a reign would be the difference between a very good legacy to a potentially great one, especially taking into account what he did at CW. And you're very right about Roy. David is nowhere near losing his faculties and could comfortably fight on for at least another two/three years. But if you look at what's around the HW division right now there isn't really anything for him to stay on for is there? Imagine the irony of him moaning about the Klitschko's knocking lumps out of tomato cans and then him staying on and creating a legacy doing the same!
Fair one. Didn't really "fight" him though did he?! Just hit him a few times and the referee stopped it. However, Wlad and Vitali have had a few "gimmes" in recent years so it's swings and roundabouts really.
Come on. That's the problem with pure hate. You just end up talking stupidity to justify your own agenda................ The guy fought WBO champ Macrinelli in the very next fight. A guy many people fancied to knock him ouy His 3 fights at heavyweight he's fought Ruiz, and a legit world champ in Valuev As in, has Wlad actually fought a better heavyweight than Valuev in his entire career!
The real issue is. American fans in particular, tend to get very upset about loud, confident, arrogant, black guys, who shout a lot. So they just come up with endless reasons why they're actually awful............ If you're talking recent resumes - Haye's is up there with the best in boxing. The guys won world titles in 2 divisions for gods sake, beating legit world champs in both
Come on, stop trying to justify basic hate. People hate Floyd, fundamentally, because of his personality. The theory that he's avoided risks, bearing in mind he probably has the 2nd best resume in boxing, is ridiculous A lot of quiet white guys have ducked way more. Pacquiao has ducked fights. You ignore those guys
I respect Haye's desire to quit boxing with one big payday and before he gets his brain scrambled. I'd probably do the same thing if I was him. Those people calling him a coward should stand in there with the heavyweights he has stood with and take a few shots in the face. It hurts. It's very dangerous. Life is precious. I very much respect his intention. As a human being, I would respect him even if he refused to show up July 2nd. If he decided to take up accounting or some other profession that didn't require you to put your life on the line. If you look at boxing realistically, it just doesn't make sense. Boxing is like using a Stradivarius violin to pound nails with. I realize how contradictory this post sounds. I guess I need my head read, because I love to watch two guys slugging it out with their Stradivarius'. Still, I respect Haye's intention to retire healthy and wealthy. I can't knock it.
Come on. Again, you're just trying to come up with stuff to justify general hate. I'm sure if he was a quiet mexican guy, you'd be calling him the bravest fighter on the planet. He's had 3-4 fights at heavyweight, and already has a legit world title under his belt
I disagree. Heavily. Haye has been victorious in a title fight and he will now face the most dangerous boxer alive, in a match up that must be admitted as very good for the sport. Wlad is kind of dorky, in the ring, however, he dishes out shots that will give his opponents Parkinson for old days. I think Haye is brave to get in there with him.
