He would still be in a coma if the ref didnt stop that fight.

Good stoppage. Had the referee allowed him to continue, Haye could/would have hurt him bad.

The ref did the right thing in taking a moment to look hard in Enzo's eyes.
It's something that we, even with all the video footage we have access to these days, can't appreciate as well.

What the ref saw was enough for him to decide that Enzo was still dazed and the fight should be stopped.

There was still about 1 minute to go in the round and, seeing how hard Haye had been able to land his right even when Enzo was compos mentis, the possibility for some much more lasting damage by restarting the fight had to be bourne in mind.

If he'd taken a knee and risen up around 8, Enzo would've probably been able to get away with the fight continuing, even if he'd then got knocked out cold. Trying to get back up so quick sent him into the Macca-rena and hastened the end.

Enzo protested in the strongest possible terms to all four of the referee-shaped dancing monkeys standing in front of him.

For the love of Boxing God (no, not Mijares :D), if this is an early stoppage, then every TKO is if someone is stopped on his feet is an early one as well!

Some serious problems with anyone complaining about the stoppage! HELL it was a right stoppage!

    Count with me!

-after the right hand Maccarinelli falls to the ropes (1:15), grabs them therefore not going down
-another right hand and down he goes at 1:11
-after the Zab dance, the referee's chest (and it seems his hands, can't see because of the camera angle) are HOLDING the Dancing Kid's gloves not letting him going down again as Zab did (that's a mistake from the referee, he shouldn't help a fighter staying up unless he stops the fight and protects him not to fall down again)
-0:58: even with his back at the ropes and 13 seconds after the KD, Macca is still on shaky legs, holding up his hands as the warrior in him wants to go on, but referee stops it
-0:35: ringside doctors (?), a man with glasses (holding Macca's right hand), a woman and Enzo Calzaghe still holding Maccarinelli
-0:28: Macca's walking towards Haye to congrat him, small steps, like a drunk, still on very shaky legs...

So after 33 seconds, he's still in 'stopping condition'. Correct call, absolutely right on spot. No need to explain how Haye would've finished (his life) as he would have fallen if the referee then the corner didn't hold him in the first place...

In my opinion, there can be no qualms about the timing of the stoppage. Macarinelli was completely gone, his legs disobeyed him & he was he was seperated from his senses.

If the referee would have let him continue, then that referee should have been thrown out of boxing, never to return. Letting Enzo continue would have been highly dangerous.

I just cannot see why anyone thins the stoppage was early?

enzo didn't have a clue where he was.He was stumbling around and then he turned his back to the ref.The referee had no choice.

A great stoppage - referee gave Enzo the chance for his legs to steady, talked to him and examined his eyes. He knew like the rest of us that Enzo was still dazed and his opponent punched like a mule.

Anyone who complains about the stoppage doesn't have any thought for fighters well being.

    You're an idiot.

Mac has said the stoppage was right and even Frank Warren has said that the ref did the right thing and that Enzo was done.

He could barely hold up his gloves above waist height and could have been badly hurt if Haye had landed again.

of course enzo could have continued. he wasnt hurt!!!!!!!!!

he was just giving a RIVERDANCE IMPRESSION to mock haye and lure him into that knockout punch he was just about to ko haye with had that scum nogood ref (who was obviously on the take) not stopped the fight.

There was a 10% he would have been able to hang on and cover up long enough.
    He was gone.

Not even 10%. I was at the fight, minutes after it was over, he was leaning on the ropes and looking unsteady and slightly sick.

There was over a minute left in the round, he would have been horribly hurt had it carried on.

Strike pretty much summed it up.

Only somebody who didn't see the stoppage could entertain such a silly notion. Macca was out of it in a big way ala Berbick vs Tyson. The lights were on but nobody was home, Haye would have possibly killed him had the fight continued.
