To those who suggest that Haye will not be able to carry up his speed and power to HW, I think this should clarify it...

Given that Haye walks around at a little under 230 pounds, and this is his 'ideal weight' for HW, then why would he lose power or speed by putting on a few (literally a few) pounds of muscle, instead of shedding 20 pounds?

Why would his power or speed be helped by draining himself and losing 20+ pounds to make CW? You would imagine that would only hinder his speed and power. Therefore by staying at a more natural weight, they should at least stay the same, if not better. You may also argue that while his power will stay the same, the HW's will simply be able to take it better, which is possible, but he will defo have his speed and in the same way, it will be more pronounced against the slower HW's.

He carried it well enough against Tomas Bonin, even though he will put on more for his permanent stint at heavy.

He will be a wrecking ball at 230 pounds.

Haye's speed and explosiveness should transfer, he'll be a big puncher at heavyweight. His chin is the question mark. He has to prove he can take a heavyweight punch which with his aggressive style is going to happen

I think he's got a great chance of cleaning house in the HW division. His quickness will be there but as you said the the question is, will his power be overwhelming against guys at 230 as it is at fighters at 200? I think it will IMO.

My only question with him is his defense. He needs to keep his hands up and chin tucked or he's gonna taste that canvas FAST. He was way too overconfident against Enzo on Saturday. That wont fly with Wlad.

I agree, he cant have a low, lazy left hand at HW and cant afford to have an anything less than tight defense as well.

If I was Hayes trainer I'd set a limit even though there isnt a limit on the heavyweights id keep drilling it into his head that he has to be under 16 stone with good trainin and weighing in at 15 and a half stone haye is a match for most of the big heavys he beats a lot of them for speed, powe and footwork.

    Good post :good

I don´t think that he has to worry at all about his offensive,
though it really bothered me how low he held his hands versus Macca.
Let´s see how he fights at HW, and then we´ll have a better idea how his fefence and chin will hold at HW.

Can he and do Heavies take his shots better? I don't think that these are the issues... Of course he can and they don't take shots better. The guy has 20 wins with 19 Kayos ( eight in 1, five in 2, two in 3, more than 80% inside four) and takes 1 minute and 45 seconds to blow away a 230 pounder heavy ( Bonin - was 37-1(20)). He was 216 lbs for that one and that seems just about right - 10 pounds to feel comfortable because he is drained below 200, and more 10 pounds without getting overblown... A powerhouse never loses his punch moving up if he doesn't lose his leverage. Others have said it and I agree, Haye needs to eat some shots at that weight class or else he's just buying time... Look at Michael Spinks and what happened to him.

He will be ok , I think. The CW punch comes faster, so the HW punch may not be a problem if it's too slow to accurately land.

He'll still be a massive puncher at heavyweight in my opinion. I expect him to improve at heavyweight, much in the way Cotto has done since stepping up to welterweight.

Haye's going to be 238lb according to Booth In Boxing Monthly Interviews. Too much muscle for Haye 17 stone.

I think that the difference won't be in Haye's punching power. The difference will be the way that the bigger bodied heavyweights will be able to deal with his punching power.

The bigger problem for Haye will be dealing with the punches coming back his way.

Theres a chance he could be nothing more than a C+ fighter at HW because he doesn't carry over well. We have to wait and see.

well to be fair very few heavywieghts can take a heavywieght punch.

i thikn he has enough defencive skills and agility not to get tagged by any major shots
