Ironic that Haye badmouthed Vlad Klitchco relentlessly for being overcautious then serves up that.In any case Valuev was a paper champion who spends most of his time in life or death battles with John Ruiz.Haye's really gonna set the division on fire-his first defense will,no doubt,be the opener of a trilogy with Ruiz.
Haye had to adapt that strategy in order to beat someone 7st heavier than him. He hasn't fought all his career with the same boring style Klitschko is synonymous with.
Hmmm, i wonder how wlad would fight against some one 7' 6' weighting 350lbs... but then again - they NEVER have that disadvantage, and always bore people to sleep. :hi:
I dont know where so many people get this "Haye takes no risks, he's boring" from. He went to war with Mormeck, and blasted out his nearest rival at cruiserwiehgt in minutes. He as of yet has not ducked anyone, including a 7 foot european, who he travelled to fight KNOWING he may lose a controversial decision. He has a right to badmouth Wlad for his cautiosness, have you seen him scuttle backwards frenetically when an opponent comes close to hitting his chin?? And Wlad doesnt even mix it up, hes so cautious he throws the same punches and combos over and over again because he knows they work!!! If you genuinely think Haye will have a trilogy with Ruiz/make the heavyweight division any more boring than it already is, you dont know much about Haye's previous work.
That's an excuse, not a refutation. I can't see Haye fighting too differently as long as he's at HW. He was tentative against Barrett as well. Like Wlad, he needs to be somewhat boring to protect his chin at this point.
He broke his right hand in round 2. The X Rays have been done, it was in tonights paper, a metacarpal in his right hand. Even on the videos of his press conference in London you could see how badly swollen his hand is. That means that from round 3 onwards his biggest weapon was gone, so he had to be more negative than usual and still almost had Valuev out in the 12th.
Thats what i thought at first - its not like Valuev punches hard, but the broken hand may have something to do with his tentative performance
Yup. Comparisons could be made between Haye now and the earlier version of Wlad. Sanders-era Wlad. So Haye has a similar choice. He can get beaten by fighters that he shouldn't lose to. Or he can fight protecting his chin. People go on and on about how big Valuev is when they are excusing Haye fighting sscared. Notice how they never go on about Valuev's huge punching power? "Fighting scared against the biggest world champ ever" sounds so much more reasonable than "fighting scared against a medium puncher". Both are true, although the term "fighting scared" is a loaded one. Protecting a real liability like a poor chin is just sensible. Given that the size of the fighter means much less than his power when it comes to protecting a fragile jaw, it is not unreasonable to think that Haye will fight in a similar cautious fashion to anyone who can punch as hard or harder than Valuev. Which is a lot of guys.
it was his first truly tentative fight and I wasn't even bored. I will give the guy the benefit of the doubt for certain.
Since when did Valuev have huge punching power? I thought his last 12 had 11 go the distance, with some robberies along the way?
Congratulations on your new account, just to post this thread, ******. Say, have you ever actually seen any other David Haye fight?
Funny, cos I don't remember him fighting in that cautious style against Barrett, whose previous 3 fights had ended in 2 rounds and he had just came off a brutal KO win over Tye Fields. Seems your theory doesn't really stack up. Maybe Haye was actually fighting cautious due to the mans size rather than his punching power?
