Haye on Tua: "I can definitely see a showdown somewhere in the future"

Simply because the distortion packs a punch and solos with a lot of gain on them remain crisp. The clean settings are sexy as hell as well. I had a Marshall in the past and that is the worst amp I have ever had the misfortune of both buying and owning. My mate has a really nice Vox that I've enjoyed playing, but the tube takes ages to kick in and in order to get a good crunch out of it he feeds it through an effects pedal. I'm not the sort of person who pisses about too much with effects to be honest, although I do like some light echo when playing clean, so I don't care about any other settings that come with the amp. I've also owned a very nice little Fender practice amp in the past but, after a few years of playing, the ****er packed up.

The Spider seems a tidy amp and, going by what I've played in the past, seems the best option for the type of music I play. Another one of my mates owns a III series and swears by it and I've read many reviews that corroborate what he says as well. After I buy my new car I'm aiming to get a Gibo SG as well.

What's the Mesa like? I'm hoping to get a Mesa head for a cab sometime in the future, but not anytime soon.

You prob played a Marshall MG, Marshall solid state amps are woeful and well behind the competition in that class. They only trade on that Marshall badge. Of course the Mesa is amazing, you largely get what you pay for in amps. It cost me about 1000, I'm not a huge fan of my Flying V though because I bought it on an impulse as I love the style forgetting how uncomfortable it is to play sitting down.

Don't get me wrong the Spider does have a heavy distortion. It just sounds so digital to my ears, but then again thats the beauty of music if you like it...it ain't gonna matter what anybody else thinks. Another point is forget about getting any individuality from your guitar on a spider, it leaves no room for that because the signal is so digitalized. So in that sense its a really short term amp you'll probably tire of when you see its lack of versatility and true tone, and when you want your new guitar you'll realize the amp is handicapping your tone on your brand spanking Gibson SG.

I'd highly reccomend at least trying the Peavey Vypyr 15 if you like to play heavy. That is a heavy metal voiced modelling amp for the same price, it actually models the sounds on real amps like the Mesa Dual Rec, JSX, XXX, Krankenstein on the heavy side and the Fender Twin, Deluxe and others for clean:

Cheers for that, mate:good. I've never played a Peavey before (heard plenty live, though), but this is quite an interesting option. As I say, I'm just after a new practice amp, but from the vid this amp seems quite tasty:think. I think I'll try it out down Reverb in the centre now as well thanks:good.

 

No probs mate. Should run you about £85 according to Google for the 15W, might be a little more in a shop but I suppose the Spider is the same price. I think you'll find its a little more articulate than the Spider, it has more definition and clarity but very heavy too, its more for metal than cleans but the cleans are passable. I've been around both, every ****er has a Spider and my mate has the 30W version of the Vypyr and it wins hands down. Peavey made a quality offering for those on a budget. Just make sure you get warranty because I've heard of a few reliability issues flying around.

How the **** could you forget about him? Arguably the best British performance of 2009, by a ****ing mile in my eyes.

Tua needs to earn the shot, really. Saying that, Haye's not exactly #1 ranked in the Heavyweight division before he fought Valuev.

That's the best thing that can be said here. The criteria is always subjective and is quite pointless, IMHO. He's basically just asking 'who are your favourite 5 guitarists' as opposed to asking for a definitive list free of bias; it's an impossible list to make anyway, it isn't like sport where you can get a decent measure of someone's 'greatness' by assessing their achievements.
