Now this is not a David Haye hate thread... i happen to think he did what he needed to do considering various factors such as size difference, the fact that it was only his third fight at a new weight - perhaps even ring rust!!! However, i happen to believe that Holyfield fought a better fight. He had better ring generalship in that he controlled the distance rather than running away, and he put more effective combinations together. I think from a technical point of view Holyfield is one of the greatest of all time and i dont think it's right that people label him 'shot to s**t' when in fact i thought he beat this man mountain more convincingly. Any opinions and discussion are welcome... keep the hate to a minimum please!!
Why doesn't Haye fight Evander next? It would be a much more entertaining fight than a fight with Ruiz.
Holyfield does well with power punchers that throw one two combinations.... for instance the Tyson fights. I give a very old version of holyfield a good chance against Haye
Holyfield landed more, Haye landed more accurate Holyfield stood better, but Haye kept away and didn't get hit. The two fights was pretty similar. But I believe Holyfield won more rounds.
Haye was better defensively and landed much harder shots. Holyfield was caught more by Valuev but landed more of his pitter-patter shots than Haye did his solid blows. It really depends on what you're looking for. Valuev was less awful against Haye but they both deserved the decision against him. Ringsiders apparently had it far clearer in general for Haye than they did Holyfield though. I attribute this to the greater impact of Haye's shots and the fact that it was easier for them to see just how clearly Valuev was missing with the fast majority of his punches.
Haye landed fewer punches, but he landed them cleaner and harder. He did better defensively too. I voted Haye.
Both about the same. Thought Evander won the rounds a bit wider but he never hurt him as bad as Haye did.
Difficult to say, Holyfield looked good in the first six rounds but he also was pinned agains the ropes twice late in the fight and didn't land much in the entire second half. Holyfield gave all he had to offer, Haye held back a lot and that can blur things in favor of Holyfield. Holyfield also got a lot of sentimental credit because of his age and because it was his first good performance in a very long time, whereas Haye promised excitement and a knockout and failed to deliver any of that. I would say that Chagaev and Larry Donald looked better against Valuev than Haye or Holyfield.
