well boxing is not only about KOs..its a good test for haye, i'm not saying that he should try and KO but if he did then thats some huge achievement right there as mccall branded as a guy with the best chin as a HW. Its also a good test to know what haye brings and how he carries himself till 12 full rounds(for instance stamina test)...we would know a lot about haye if he fights full 12 rounds against someone known to be tough.
Anyone notice Herbie Hide is ranked no.4 in the crusiers? Not bad for beating up a bucnh of stiffs in Germany, suppose the WBC International belt must help his ranking.
Quick question, was this the WBC's top-ranked heavyweight boxers or orators? Cuz if it's orators I can understand his ranking given he hasn't had a meaningful bout at heavyweight.
As the CW champ steppping up he gets a good ranking. Joan Guzman is ranked no.1 by the WBO at lightweight after vacting the superfeather strap despite not having a fight at LW.
Alright lads, newbie alert. I have got a lot of time for Haye who is clearly our most exciting talent for several years. If I was put in a position where I could advise Haye (although I'm gonna put it out there and say ending up in such a position is unlikely ) I would give him two main pointers. 1. Bring the chat down a bit. Everyone likes a bit of gob but go for quality not quantity - he hasn't said anything new or witty in about 6-7 statements! To his credit he is very intelligent and thus still manages to come across well but he could start to come across as a gobshite if he carries on. 2. I think he should be very wary that his awesome power has meant he has severely limited 12 round experience. There is a certain irony that his power could limit his longevity. I believe he is an exceptional trainer but that can only improve natural stamina - ring stamina (by which I mean taking punches, tactics etc.) is completely different and can only be learned in the ring against some seriously hard buggers. With this in mind I think he should be looking to fight some iron-chin fighters who will stay in there with him for a bit. He needs to be hit and have people who can be hit so he is forced to develop a Plan B,C and D. Having said that I still remain confident that with his existing speed and power he could still wipe the division, but it's better to be safe and have a more developed game when getting in a ring with Wladimir Klitschiko. I think he should have taken Skelton who has a serious chin if nothing else! Box his ears off, take Warren's money (again) and then fight someone who could go the distance again - maybe Rachman? AND THEN go for the big cheese as a more rounded fighter. Sorry for the length I got really into it about halfway through - I'll be more brief next time! Dubstep
#22 - The problem with fighting someone like Skelton is it does nothing for Haye's profile across the pond, and it's really easy to look bad against Skelton just because of the guy's style. I like Skelton, nice guy, done well with the tools he's got, but stylistically a match with Skelton is not going to help Haye at all.
How is it a good test for his power at heavy? We are talking about a fighter who has never been dropped....EVER. Not as an amateur or as a pro, a guy who sparred many rounds with peak Tyson and was never dropped in those sessions. A guy who has eaten bombs off guys like Lewis and Bruno and numerous other heavys and reacted as if someone just flicked him and it was a bit annoying. If Haye even hurt McCall it would suggest Haye was a puncher of insane power, if he hit him with bomb after bomb and Oliver looked a bit distracted by it but otherwise fine, it would tell us that like every other heavyweight Haye was not able to hurt someone who has a head made out of titanium.
How old is McCall now? 94? **** sake at least let Haye have some kind of meaningful fight or a profile builder. Has McCall even fought since the win over Samil San last year? How about the lad Povetkin got the UD over at the start of the year, Chambers??? He looked alright in that fight. Don't think he'd be easily dropped either. Might be a nice workout and it would increase his profile both sides of the water if marketed properly
McCall dropped a decision to Juan Carlos Gomez 8 months ago . You talk about Povetkin like he's the average 25t-35th ranked heavyweight . There is a lot of money behind him , he's Wlad's mandatory and he's got a fight with Tauras Sykes lined up to keep him ticking over till the Wlad fight . I think a fight with Ruiz , Maskaev or Raham after he fights Toney(should he beat Toney of course) would be the best option for Haye . Sultan Ibragimov would be a good option if his team were willing to put him in there with Haye straight after a defeat .
bah my apologies I'm tired , I doubt Chambers camp would go for it . Lots of risk little(bar monetary) reward .
Agreed on all that. Morph's a nice chap but offers nothing worthwhile for Haye, despite Warren's amusingly self-centered attempts to say otherwise.
What someone who doesn't get knocked out by anyone? that should boost his confidence if McCall goes the distance.
