To everyone out there who is starry eyed about Haye's destructon of Monte Barrett, there's something you need to remember. Barrett has been washed up for a long time.

Today, Barrett is nowhere near the fighter he was when he lasted seven rounds with Vlad, or when he nearly beat Mesi, or when he defeated Guinn and Beck.

Just one year ago, Barrett was knocked out in two rounds by Cliff Couser. Floored twice and stopped.

Barrett is 37 years old and he has not put on a top flight performance in years. His hands looked slow against Haye, which is a sure sign of advancing age. Worse yet, Barrett telegraphed all his punches from wide angles, thus leaving himself open to Haye's counters.

In order to swing his big bombs against Vlad or Vitali, the smallish Haye will first need to find a way to get past the long, powerful jabs of the brothers. Haye can't expect to hit the Klitschkos with his overhand bombs from the outside, and he can't expect to jab with them either.

At roughly 6'7", the Klitschkos are much taller than Haye. They will have an easy time leaning backwards as Haye rushes in, and then Haye will have to prove that he has the chin to absorb the powerful punches that the brothers are sure to catch him with.

I wouldn't be getting excited about Haye based on what we've seen so far.

I saw Barrett fight Rahman in Chicago and he lost a decision back in 2005. 2 years later, he was KO'd by Valuev. Not a top heavyweight to say the least.

Judging by his movement in the ring and his slow hands, I thought Barrett looked almost as washed-up as Golota did against Austin last week.

Nobody is saying Austin is great for beating an old Golota. I think we should have similar reservations about Haye at this early point.

Aye, mate, What planet are you from? Certainly you missed the awesome power that David displayed this evening.
David played with Monte and decided the 5th was the round to end the fiasco.
    :cheers

Yeah, Barrett is old, slow & washed up, and he was not that great to begin with.

Barret is old, washed up for sure on top of that he was never a KO artist and is similar in size to Haye. If Haye wants to test himself at heavy he should fight someone big like Mcline, Thomson or someone who punches hard like Peter, Tua.

I would give Haye 7/10 for the way he finished the fight but there are still questions out there to be answered.

Barrett though did look like he was shot, his movement was jerky and his punching very wild, having said that Haye did what he had to do and looked good in doing it.

Still picking both Klitschkos over him though.

Its a decent HW 'debut' (I know he fought above the cruiser limit already for the pedants). Nothing to be totally in awe, but certainly nothing to pick holes in. If more fighters had David's desire to get to the top by beating the best then boxing would be in a hell of a lot better position. Let's give the guy a chance.

VitKlit would be THE absolute worst nightmare for David, a hard hitting, massive HW with an iron chin. Awful, awful matchup for Haye. Against Wlad he has a better chance. While he'd be an underdog Haye's combination of speed / power could do for Wladdy.

thats exactly what i thought, monte was throwing wild punches nothing calculated and no combinations. barrett had no defence the guy had his hands on his chest! plus...i did not see monte land even one decent shot on haye!

Barrett was never much good to start with but I think this fight should erase any doubts over whether Haye carries his punch up to heavyweight.

I don't want to discredit Haye for his performance (which was so-so imo), but Barrett was definitely not the man to beat. He was slow, telegraphed his wild punches and seemed to be as shot as a boxer can be. Haye has to improve a lot if he would like to stand a chance against any of the Klitschko brothers. A fight against Vitali would become Haye's worst nightmare if he doesn't improve big time.

I still believe that Haye has 0% chance of beating Vitali, and i think Vitali stops him pretty quick.

About Wlad i think Hayes speed will bother him but at the same time Wlads size and power will bother Haye.

Im dead certain that Haye should be going for Wlad, Vitali as you said is a total nightmare for Haye.

    Haye did well last night.

Despite the fact before the fight none of you were saying anything negative about Barrett, but as soon as Haye wins, the excuses start to happen (happens all the time it seems around here), I have to agree though, Barrett looked useless, credit to Haye for getting him out of there, but it realls proves very little about how far Haye can go in the division.

Barret was shot to hell by the looks of him last night.
