So says The Sun: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/3014542/david-haye-hospital-injury-tony-bellew-defeat/ Not the most credible of sources but hey.
Yeah, I heard this earlier today, but theres no information regarding how severe the injury was sustained apart from he hurt his achilles. We all know that, but what did he do to his achilles. Was it a torn ligament etc? or just sprained etc. It's hard to make a judgement when the information is not there.
It's all that explosive training he does, it really puts a lot of strain on the body, but otherwise without that he doesnt have a lot of classic boxing talent to fall back on. It's constant movement etc that he relies on and once that goes (permenantly) he wont have a lot to rely on especially if he is being walked back etc. He should take time out, rest and drop some weight. All that weight on a fragile body and small skinny calves does not bode well for a fighter with his style. That 3.5 year layoff really killed his career.
God, long ass layoff... Outrageous people ranked him after that long with only those tuneup wins since. As much bad as I talk about Haye I actually don't hate on the Chisora win as much as some could (not that I think he's great or anything). Aside from that one win, he hadn't beaten a ranked fighter in, what, 8 years since Valuev?!
Take some time out? After having four years off? The dude needs to hang them up. He got £4million ($4.92million) for that fight last night. He can live off that, whatever other money he has and cash he'll get from being a pundit/commentator.
Expect Haye vs. Bellew II or Haye vs. Price before he hangs 'em up. Maybe he retires and in another two years, he and Tyson Fury decide to both comeback together for a one-off fight against each other. Especially after all the talk this Bellew fight generated. Haye can't help himself from the spotlight. EDIT: Hey, I mean, I do agree with you 100%... just sayin'.
£4,000,000 in boxing terms is closer to £1,500,000 once all expenses etc are taken out. For a guy with Haye's lifestyle that will not last long. Hopefully he invests it well and can life off residual income. Carl Froch for example has over 100 properties and a building firm. He never has to work ever again. Haye?...Not so sure.
Haye is going through a bad divorce with the mother of his kids. That means half of his sh** now is gone to her, and then half of his earnings from this year going forward (and the courts are hardly reasonable or on the side of the man). Haye is absolutely desperate for a rematch- and as the injury is not that bad, he will get it. He needs to stay away from those "business deals" because he needs to be sensible now he is 36 and has no real future as a boxer at the highest level
Why he didn't have it strapped under a pair of boots only he knows. What support these trainers gave Haye is his guess. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/imag...ye-s-heavily-strapped-right-leg-is-seen-8.jpg
