I think Haye's greatest legacy is that he was a talented cruiserweight whose skills and abilities to self-promote landed him some nice heavyweight paydays, and a few nice wins, including an alphabet strap.

Great cruiserweight who managed to grab a paper title at heavyweight. His mouth wrote cheques his fists couldn't cash.

I think of it more as his mouth writing checks that he was ABLE to then cash.

Besides him being a quality boxer due to his speed, movement and power, he was also a man who knew exactly how to play the British public while doing the bare minumum and taking the least amount of risk.

2-1 in Cruiserweight titlefights, and yet people view him as some legendary champion in that weightclass.
Took a paper belt from Valuev, edging him in a stinker (that belt belonged to Chagaev who beat Valuev much more clearly), and then defended it against an ancient Ruiz and a non fight against Audley(!!!!), before losing it to Wlad in another stinker.
All this while running his mouth about the Klitschko's fighting stiffs, and a big portion of the British public lapped it up.

    His best wins:
    Valuev @36
    Mormeck @35
    Chisora @28 (prime)

His greatest legacy involves 200 men.

And part of his legacy is that he managed to make the cover of my X-Box 360 Fight Night game and having very exaggerated stats in it, certainly with 20/20 hindsight.

People being a little harsh here. Two-division champ with wins over Maccarelli, Mormeck, Barret, Ruiz, Valuev, and Chisora, and notable contender for an all-time great heavyweight is a very decent legacy. Yeah, he was a pain in the ass, but give the man his due.

Good cruiserweight, and a solid beltholder at heavyweight. I was tempted to say paper champ, but he was a level about that to be fair. Don't think the Bellew losses, matter too much. He had no business in the ring, and Adam Booth knew it. I do wonder how he kept getting serious injuries though. He never was very active.

Wasted talent who was awful at navigating his career, particularly at HW

He could have been huge at HW, but chose to be lazy and not fight

Prime Haye, due to his LHW hand speed (single shots) and HW power, would beat the current champions at HW, IMO. Let's not forget he's the only man to knock out the iron-jawed Chisora and he wobbled the 300lb giant Valuev so hard with a single shot it caused an earthquake in Papua New Guinea.
