Very good cruiserweight but undersized heavyweight who got more attention than warrented. Overall a good fighter though.
He was a very good CW for his time, however missed at least 4 other top CWs that would've provided him with a favorable legacy in that division. At HW he talked........... He will eventually fall into oblivion....... And I'm not being biased, I saw the talent in Haye, he didn't do enough.
I would say Haye's legacy is the exposing of people who let their dislike of characters cloud their opinions of a persons achievements.
A athlete who turned to boxing. Flawed technically - his speed papered the cracks - and his single shot power was enough to dissuaded opponents from targetting those flaws for fear of what they would get in return. He was never going to age well with that style of fighting, even without taking into account the string of injuries he had to deal with for forcing his frame to carry more muscle than it naturally could. Great CW - in my view - who lacked the depth of resume to support that assertion without it being questioned. Decent HW who picked up a belt and a bunch of cash he wouldn't have earned at 200llbs. But c'mon... in the main his fights were a great watch (a couple of stinkers, agreed), even if sometimes it was only for the finish rather than the 'action' leading to them. Forget the Bellew 'fights', they'd have been more suited to a travelling circus and he musta been pretty close to doing his ring 'walk' in a wheelchair...
