Haye says he's 2nd best cruiserweight of all time. Really?

So is David Haye 20-1, 2-0 in title fights, 2nd best cruiser in history? Think about it.

What about 4-time world champion Carlos De Leon?
Or Dwight Qawi? James Toney? Both far more skillful than Haye
Vasiliy Jirov, JC Gomez both defended their title approximately 10 times,
    Johnny Nelson as well.

Cunningham, Guiliermo Jones and Adamek resumes aren't that bad, too.

Is Haye 2nd best cruiser based on achievements, not on his ability and hypothetical matches? What do you think?

i'm not a haye fan by any stretch but i think this is reasonable has far as H2H is concerned. on achievement i would say no but historically the crusier division is terrible just like most non-traditional weight classes.

The divisions not been around that long, he's top 5 at worst, only cruiserweight I actually see beating him is Holyfield. He had a good cruiserweight career, heavyweight was awful though.

I disagree but he's not totally off tbf. The CW division is young and hardly ever delivers P4P material so there's that.

Legacy wise he's not even close of course.
    Only 2 or 3 titlefights (2 major, 1 minor), 2 wins, 1 loss, 2 ko's.

H2H, I guess he's clearly in the top5. But like heavyweight it's all just guesswork because of the pretty slim record.

Haye is in the same position Adamek, Mormeck, Toney, Quavi are.

Jirov, De Leon, even Huck, are a little ahead.

    He may be, arguably.
Holyfield of course is far and away the best in every sense, but after him it becomes a bit fuzzy. I don't think DeLeon was anything great. Qawi was probably a bit past his best...who else really made folk sit up and take notice?
Nobody besides Holy has dominated this division.

He makes top 10 easily, 2nd best of all time? No, not at all.

Haye is an ATG #1 in the "would have" category. He would have beaten them all, but when he actually got in the ring he achieved much less, of course just because of injuries. Otherwise he "would have" beaten them all.

yep. he would have knocked out Wlad had his pinky toe not been stubbed.
you can rest assured "he would" have some excuse when he lost if he ever found his balls and actually got into the ring with vitali

H2H, I think he's top 3. ATG, its not unreasonable to have him #2 behind Holy imo

This is boxingnews24 so the thread will likely be filled with emotional Klitschko fans with bleeding vaginas

Haye has 2 good wins, Frago & Enzo & a very good win, Mormeck. He held all the belts (bar the IBF which was stripped from Mormeck), was the clear & unified #1 in the division & knocked out almost everyone he fought, often in spectacular style.

Many of the long reigning cruiserweights have some very weak names on their record as title defences ( like Gomez, Nelson) because the division has been fairly poor historically & unifications are rare.

In terms of achievement, not even close.

A bit better with H2H... especially considering that most of best CW fighters were fighting at 190 pounds limit so he has decent size advantage there ;-)

No way. The Cat blew him out who was going the distance with shot Eubank fighting above his weight division. He never fought the Cruiser's that mattered. Mormeck was ****.

Haye was a great fighter of his generation but he left no great legacy.
