I guess I can understand why. He has less of a threat in front of him. That threat is a legit HW punch. Watching the Fragomeni vs Haye fight and Haye seems very calm, cool, and collective. He seems much more fluid, stands his ground more, and his upper-body movement and reflexes seem much better. And his glove-blocking of Frag's left (hook) seems better, his balance seems better and his footwork looks less sloppy. I'm starting to wonder whether Haye bulked too much for the Ruiz fight. He seemed to have a little less fluidity. Maybe Haye should try coming in at 215-220 if he can. That bulk doesn't do anything. Also his stamina and work-rate in this fight seem to look and be much better. Too much bulk can explain why that detriments Haye's stamina. Just a thought... what do others think?
He does not breath wile punching. This why he can't hold a breath. And yes, he looked way better in CW.
I figured out a big problem with Haye. He was probably a somewhat tall CW. And he fights tall, he fights like he's the tall man which is why he was always so exposed to the right hand. Now that's he is a HW that's probably why he moves a bit more since his movement is going to have to be an aspect of his defense now that he ISN'T tall at HW.
Just a bit habit you noticed? How can you tell he doesn't breathe while punching? Everyone keeps saying he knows he has a bad chin and says it. Can anyone show me footage of Haye saying he has a bad chin?
I think a lot of his problems in this fight stemed from his lack of sparing. His overall conditioning and weight probably were affected by that too.
Haye is so open for the the right hand its not even funny, Put there Arreola or some1 else with good straight right -adamek maybe too and i dont think David would make it to the final bell. Good, that he adimts it himself (indirectly) , but he has to work on that or he'll get seriously hurt.
Haye has never been more composed than against Valuev. Any time he throws flurries, he does tend to look like he's lost controlled, but I think it's more of a variation depending on his opponent. Assuming he fights Wlad, he won't look composed. If he fights Vitali, he will look composed. As for his weight, he was up 4lbs. It's just part of him filling out at the weight. The only noticable muscle change I can see, us on his beck, but apart from that, he just seems to be ad******g to the division.
Haye does need to come in a few pounds lighter. Too much muscle is exposing what I think is his only major weakness, stamina. Chin isn't great, but it's hardly Amir Khan's.
He was too heavy for my liking and it showed. He needs to drop about 4 - 6 lbs depending on who he fights next. The lack of sparring and what I believe to be poor preperation (in some areas not overall) showed in patches. Otherwise he was still sharp and looked very capable and entertaining.
Too much weight I think. It's unnecessary and potential could be taxing on his speed and stamina. But who knows... maybe it was a sparring/weight thing. He doesn't need to be above 220.
He'll always be entertaining, especially considering the state of the division and the other champions we have to deal with.
Totally agree. I honestly think if he wasn't British, with our terrible tendency to overhype our better fighters, Haye would be more widely respected globally. I think Haye is the real deal, not just a great British fighter but a great fighter full stop. The truth is we've only had a handful of world champions over the past 25 years who were demonstrably the best in their weight class (Honeyghan, Hamed, Lewis, Calzaghe, Hatton and Haye at cruiser). Of those, only Lewis, Hamed and maybe Calzaghe really have the CVs to deserve being hall of famers, though Honeyghan was my fave fighter for years... benn and Eubank were fantastic British fighters, but it's difficult to claim that the best overseas fighters were sh*tscared of them.
Which is part of the reason we need him around. What would we talk about otherwise? "Oh, did you see Areeola in the weigh in for Klitschko? Yeah, he had a vest on that made him heavier when he is already heavy anyway. Oh, I know! Wahahahahahahahaha".
Exactly. He'll be much more relaxed against the Adamek/Arreola winner for obvious reasons. There's also the increased pressure to get knockouts since he's on the big stage now.
Yes, I'm not complaining. I'm a Haye fan and I want him to do the best. I'm just making an observation and seeing what others think. He's definitely energized the HW division with the little of what he has done. The future hopefully is even brighter, which I imagine could put HW fighting back on the map with some unification in the future.
