Would it be a good idea for Haye to attempt a Roy Jones Jr style change, using a defensive guard amongst his quick reflexes and body movement to significantly reduce the chances of being landed flush on, with the questionable chin and increased punching power he will be on the receiving end of at Hw?
No - the style will remain the same. I actually believe him when he said that he keeps his left low to draw opponents on to him. His swift movement against the slow punching heavies will allow him to look like Roy anyway
i agree.... the heavies with heavy hands, are extremely slow, you'd be a fool to beleive haye will get caught easily by them
One thing you will notice if you watch Haye's fights is that he has the footwork and body movements of a super middle or light heavy, as opposed to a cruiserweight. His hands are pretty fast - especially given how heavy handed he is. He does have chin issues but isn't particularly hittable - put it this way, you won't be seeing him outboxed in a hurry.
He didn't say he was Roy Jones, he said he MIGHT LOOK LIKE Roy Jones and I agree. Style wize, he's going to make these lumbering elephants look SLOW!:rasta
I think somewhere in between. Haye will use footspeed and lateral movement to avoid getting caught more than a high-guard, but he will definitely have to utilise a guard at times. To think that he won't even get caught once in a 12-rounder against heavyweights with decent speed is naive, and Haye didn't have a great chin at cruiserweight. He'll still be an attacking fighter and KO specialist and will do very well at heavyweight, but he will definitely have to concentrate more on defence whilst fighting and work very hard on improving his defence in the gym. He ain't no Roy Jones, but RJJ weighed 193lbs when fighting Ruiz. I expect Haye to be around 220lbs when he fights at heavy- totally different animal. And I expect Haye to take on bigger, better guys as well, so the two scenarios can't really be compared.
yawn...that was funny the first time haye said it. and he better change his style or he will be brutally knocked out. The guy has a soft chin, no doubt about it. Look at the Mock, Thompson, and Mormeck fights as a whole. Oh and all of his nuthuggers who claim his speed will be too much to deal with, i got one name for you: Giacobbe Fragomeni. That feather-fisted midget has some slowass hands and Haye was on the brink of a loss. He bullied Haye around the ring for basically the entire fight and connected at will. Luckily for Haye, he had no power: 9kos in 21 fights at the time. Fragomeni opened a terrrible cut at the end of round 7 when he landed a stiff four-punch combination. Fragomeni is a smaller, poor man's version of Sam Peter, who would brutally knock Haye out because like Fragomeni possesses an excellent chin. However, unlike Fragomeni, Peter is very powerful and probably the strongest man in boxing. His inconsistent technique lessens his overall effectiveness but he would bully Haye around the ring and catch Haye eventually. Haye could be decent but when his maniac fans completely ignore his limitations, it's delusional.
soft chin? that's pushing it for someone who's never been KO'd in a heavy hitting division like the cruisers.
