I just read an article from Fightnews.com where haye is quoted as saying: "I've been going on about heavyweights being big fat slobs and this guy isn't. Monte is going to come after me. He's fast, he's coming off three spectacular knockout wins. If he hits me with the same shots he hit [Tye] Fields with, I'll probably end up in the same position as he did [knocked out in the first round]. I can't afford to get hit with those bombs." What is with these turn of events because this does not sound like haye?:huh Articles link if you want it: http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2/headlines//EkkkAZpVlVELLIjuwT.html
Maybe he's aware of the backlash against him his mouth has caused as is toning it down. If so, it's a good move
Just being real about things, at least he doesn't say stuff like "I will walk all over him", "I can never be hurt". Just being realistic about the situation of this fight and we know that Barrett is not a joke when shows up to win.
yeah, Haye should be given credit for these comments. At least he's not like Khan. Haye knows he can't fool the public, if he gets sparked he will have to give it up. Simple as that.
co-sign.....he just's keeping it real, i dont see how you can he's sucking up...his whole career's riding on this fight basically, lose to him and people gonna say "the clown got exposed" and ****, but if he sparks him in impressive fashion then Wlad, the other heavyweights, and boxing media will take notice that he may just be the real deal
I just think Haye is realising how recognised Barrett is, he has fought and beaten a whole row of fresh faced contenders.. He is also reknowned for upsetting heavys in thier own cities.. Guinn in Arkansas, Mesi in NY.. Ty in Vegas and possibly Haye in London.. Haye is being realistic , he has to put in a great showing against Monte or he has no business calling out Wladimir or sticking around to be just another heavyweight in waiting. (like Audley)
To be honest Haye's arrogant talk is just a big act so its a relief to see him when he actually being realistic about things.
He trying to show that Barrett has credibility - which will make him look even better if he wins. I know if he underestimate Barrett like some of the other up and coming Heavies - Haye is going to find himself in trouble. Barrett has rekindled that fire within him and has a new found hunger. Haye better bring his A game if he doesn't want to get upset.
This was from his interview on Setanta the other day. David Haye has always sounded like this when he has done interviews in Britain. Confident, but also realistic and honest. It's only when he does things for American consumption that he seems to feel the need to ratchet up the hype level.
He is just being honest. He makes a good point as well. A lot of the heaveyweights today are big, overweight and slow. Haye believes his speed will be the deciding factor in beating them. However Barret is quick for a heaveyweight by todays standards so it brings about a problem that Haye may not have forseen when he first thought about entering the heaveyweight division.
His honesty about "I can't afford to be hit by these bombs" in particular flies completely in the face of those that want to paint him as deluded about his own abilities. Anyway, you do not rubbish the guy you're going to fight. You don't have to make them out to be a God on Earth or anything, but don't rubbish them. If you do then you gain little from beating them.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I don't know if Barrett will do it but his admitted Glass Jaw will get shattered at Heavyweight.
