Heard the same thing does anyone know where the original article is? I think it was Bj flores who said so :think
Yes, he looked a bit of an old boy. I've said it in another thread that Haye should be less fearful of Vit than Wlad. 4 years is a long time to have out of the ring and he's also knocking on a bit. Peter and Gomez are hardly good warm ups to have if you are thinking of fighting Haye! I would actually rather see Haye take out the Nacho boy first though. As others have said the yanks are making way too much of this tubby club fighter
Looks like it was in the Miami times http://fightpredictionleagues.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11505&mode=threaded
If Valuev doesn't end up facing Vitali expect him to face Ruiz again......and yes unfortunately I'm serious.
and he lost to Fres Oquendo imo, and he only beat Danny Batchelder by SD being badly rocked in the process and he's a 40 year old man(almost 41) who's fighting 50-60 lbs heavier than he should be. James Toney would be a fantastic fight for any of the rising fighters Haye, Arreola, Povetkin(although he's fighting Wlad) or Boytsov. They'd all murder him and likely knock him out before the midway point.
I wouldn't put him in with James Toney personally. It's an excercise in futility, and danger. He will get no credit whatsoever for beating an old guy that has performed so poorly. James Toney does nothing to prepare you for Vitali/Wlad, he is as far removed as you could find stylistically. Plus I still believe he is a little dangerous for a guy like Haye. A cruiser Toney would have murdered Haye. As it is he's still got that defence that can make it tough to hit him, and he's still got an accurate sneaky right hand. He could hurt Haye with it. Maybe Oleg Maskaev. Or Gomez so you could measure him against Vitali.
Any Toney -200lbs beats Haye with ease. It ain't even a contest. Toney can soak up Haye's shots with ease, the reverse is not true.
Correct in saying James Toney is not a good fight for Haye. Its very hard to look good against Toney even then a win wouldn't do much for him.Haye needs to win and look impressive in the process. If he looks bad winning against Toney for example, that'll be a backward step
Agreed, Toney has a truely great chin. He's been shaken up a few times at heavy, against Sam Peter, and Oquendo and against Roy Jones but it speaks volumes that a guy that started at MW has never been close to being stopped. Shame his defence isn't what it once was. I put that down to reflexes, he's not as quick to roll the shoulder as he once was. He needs to retire but I fear he won't until he's stopped.
