    you dont need to even cross a road to get into Victoria. The MEN and Victoria Station is pretty much one building

    sometimes I forget how handy the place is in comparison to other cities venues

    Alright in Manchester you can have a good night out after the fight but that's hardly a good enough reason for a promoter to put a fight on 180 miles away from the fan base of the two fighters.

    What was the problem with London is my question?

    The only reason I can see to put the fight on in Manchester is that there is a good group of people around the Manchester area that are willing to pay big money to watch a fight.

    The MEN holds 23,000 with the O2 in London having a capacity of also 23,000 (both figures taken from WIKI but if they are not representative let me know).

    I still can't get my head around why this fight is not on at the O2. The O2 in London is a lot closer than the MEN for the bulk of both fighters fan base.

    Could it be true that the fight wouldn't sell out in the two fighters home town.

    Does this mean that Londoners are more discerning about how they spend their money?

    London is too fractured, it's not reliable. There's not the concentrated boxing culture that Manchester has. That's why fighters from London don't really get a following like those from the north, most people who live/work in the capital are not from here anyway.

    As people have already said, the venue and surrounding area is a shithole and a nightmere to get around.

    I dont now where you looked but official tickets £40.50....£62.25....£88.25.....£136.75....£190.00 are all sold out.

    They already sold 17.000 + tickets, so only the high price tickets are left ....£267.50....£472.50....£625.00....£827.50

    They still want to charge London prices for the tickets though which seems to be coming back to haunt them............that and Northern common sense.

    It seems that common sense is alive and well which is surprising nowadays.

    Normally common sense isn't that common.

    It must have been life or death that the fight happened on this night it is. :nut

    All joking aside I don't think anyone on the thread has gotten to the bottom of why the fight is in Manchester. The people who said the fight might not sell as well in London must be the closest to the truth although I can't see why an audience of 7.5 million would not have snapped up the tickets.

    All the answers have been speculative but I guess only the promoters know why they decided on Manchester. I was hoping a mole might know the facts.

    I think Ticketmaster always hold back some tickets, I think it adds to the hype if people think the fight is a sell out. When "extra" tickets are released people who missed out initially snap up the "new" tickets.
