That was always likely though Flint. I think you got suckered in by Audley's mouth, which can be quite convincing. But in reality it wasn't that hard if you put emotion out of the equation to see that Audley was unlikely to turn into a a confident beast over night when he couldn't raise his game against the Rogan's of this world. Why would he suddenly come to life against a far more intimidating proposition? That was something you and PK seemed to ignore...you were hoping for something that has never really materialized.
I can confirm what Enzo Calzaghe said (regarding Enzo Maccarinelli) a few days after the fight is true.
With Harrison-Haye as soon as you are picking a winner based on the fighter doing something he's never shown to be able to do before then you are barking up the wrong tree.
:shock::shock::shock: So he told all the boys down the Pub - Enzo soiled his shorts in the dressing room. Enzo Calzaghe must of sensed Enzos fear. After all - it was Enzo Calzaghe who drove Maccarinelli to the arena in his 6 seater Vauxhall People Carrier. And he was the one with him in the dressing room before the fight. Enzo left that dressing room - even forgetting to do his hair. Celebs were eating in the crowd - impatiently waiting for the big event. Evander Holyfield and Frank Bruno - were arching their necks to get a better look at the ring entrances. Theres no doubt - it all got to much for him on the night - with such a huge occasion -. :-(
Enzo was not in the pub when he volunteered this information. I have no idea where the "soiling of his pants" rumour came from - I suspect you are taking the words said literally. I have no idea what Frank Bruno was eating that night.
:good That and picking a fighter purely based on the fact the other (may) be weight drained. Criminal eh
Enzo M's hair was the strongest image for me... it was like someone had ruffled his hair in consolation for the abject fear he was feeling. That said, all sarcasm aside, I really hope he quits soon. He's starting to slur his speech and he's honestly got no chance of regaining his paper WBO title now.
Enzo Maccarinelli could have won that fight if his mind was on the job that night. But That's like saying Ricky Hatton could have beaten "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Junior when they fought. Although I would give Enzo Maccarinelli more chance of beating Haye because of Haye's obvious flaws rather than Hatton beating Mayweather. Mayweather has very few flaws but Hatton could have been more competetive if his head was in the right place. Enzo Maccarinelli stood no chance against David Haye that night because of his frame of mind.
Well - alot of people picked Enzo cause Frank Warren said he was the hardest puncher Crusierweight of all time.
Hatton couldn't have done too much better IMO. He did better than most against Mayweather but its a bit of a stretch to say he was competitive thats for sure. End of the day he was outgunned in his own strengths, so theres not too many places you can go once that happens. I personally thought Haye was always all wrong for Enzo. Enzo's always made too many mistakes to face a fighter that fast and explosive. Yeah he 'could' of won if he'd found that chin but 95 times out of 100 its going to happen the same way. The athletic quality of Haye, the overall talent level, its just so much in favor of Haye.
Disagree with that entirely. Haye just had Macca's number, which was why he was so happy to accept the fight. Enzo's chin was never good enough to be able to walk through Haye's shots, and he was never going to get to Haye early. Nerves played a part, but he as nervous because he realised Haye was not only better than him (which was clear to anyone who'd watched the two mens' careers), but had no phsyical disadvantages from weight-drain. So he bricked it.
Hatton has no "plan b" at that level. People saying that Mayweather doesn't stop people yet he stopped Hatton are missing the "styles" side of the fight.
No doubt Enzos Glamour Boy image took a knock that night. He seemed to lose his edge for the fight. Most of his fights up to that point - he was shaven headed and short - and he looked ready for battle. Form that fight - he grew a fuzzy mop of hair - that made him look soft. His kind must of been badly effected.
