Then Lightweight champion Castillo twice, the unbeaten Corrales, Jesus Chavez, Hernandez, a well prepared Zab Judah, Baldomir etc amongst others. Also cleraly beat ODLH despite giving up advantages in size and weight.
That body punch took the wind away and slowed him down then the big right.......Hayne has a nice uppercut as well.
I was about to say the same thing. Mormeck always gets hit behind the head, same case when lost against Bell.
Wow to the people that said Mormeck quit. If you knew anything at all about Hayes freakish power in the right hand then you would understand the punch, or cetainly accumulation of punches, sent him *****. Haye has the best right hand in the crusiers and quite simply Mormeck felt it.
koysta had just demolished mitchell in 3 rounds 6 months before fighting hatton, it's a better win than cotto's win over mosely. the urango fight hatton boxed his head off and had the fight won by halfway, it took a body shot and knowing he had a big fight with castillo lined up didn't take any chances to ensure no slipup and still won 10 rounds on each judges scorecard. the trouble is fighters are classed as green or over the hill there seems to be no in between. when hatton fought koysta he was a bigger underdog with the bookies than what he is with fighting pbf, and after the fight people dismiss it as fighting an over the hill fighter.
That's because he tries to duck overhand punches by moving his head forward 90 degrees. Against Haye, wasn't his head down near Haye's waist?
It doesn't help that so many boxers today can't throw an uppercut to save themselves. Gerald McClellan must have missed over Nigel Benn's head about 30 times because he was throwing overhand rights instead of uppercuts.
i saw the same thing too. it was behind the head. if that was sam peter this board would be in an uproar. i'm not shitting on Haye, but it was behind the head.
it did hit slightly behind the head, but his head turned slightly just as haye was throwing the punch. so it wasn't intentional and seeing as his hands had dropped - it was virtually over anyway
Mormeck didnt Quit he got KO..Simple..He was gone, He just got up on instinct and would have been brutally KO had the ref allow the fight to continue, He even acknowlegde to the ref that the referee was right in stopping it...Quitting his what old man tsyzu did against Hatton.
Exactly, People forget that almost everyone on this board and other ones at the time all had Kostya winning easily but now he was past it etc
